FARMER/GARDENER

Published 2021-12-28
This song is in tribute to my Dad, Dan German from South Taylor B.C. He grew up in and around Maple Creek Saskatchewan, later moving to the Peace Country. He worked in the oil patch for a while, then the Taylor refinery which at that time was called "Pacific 66", later became PetroCan. He built some houses and Duplexes around that time, then later purchased the 17 1/2 acre spread in South Taylor where he took up Market Gardening. Back then there were several Market Gardens in South Taylor which several of these sold their produce through the original Co-op building which at that time was on Dad's land and which he helped build which put his construction skills to good work. The original coop building was rounded in shape and was very nice to enter to buy produce. Unfortunately things did not work as planned and Dad found that under the quota system his produce would be going bad so that other gardeners could sell their produce too. Therefor the co-op building was moved to it's new location on the North side of the Alaska Highway where it remained for many years afterwards. Eventually it got rebuilt in a very different shape, not sure what happened to the original building whether it burned or became rotted. When Dad tried to sell our place the Co-op building mysteriously got a blue high-water mark all around it showing where the new highwater mark would be if the site C dam was ever built. However the site C dam which finally got approved many years later is actually above our old place upstream and does not affect the high water mark downstream. When Dad passed away in 2012/13, can't remember for sure but I'm sure I'll be corrected shortly after posting this video and can hopefully edit this to reflect that detail.

  • I won't be able to make any royalties on this song as the melody is from Four in the Morning, so they get any royalties that might happen to materialize. Little do they know I don't expect any monetary gain for my songs, oh but I hope I don't receive a bill neither:)
