FRED performing "Connelly's Back In Town" (arranged by Clay Hine?). Original video:    • FRED - Connelly's Back in Town

Title explanation (and video explanation): FRED had been competing all throughout the mid-late 90s and were on the path to winning when out of nowhere in '99, a new quartet called PLATINUM showed up and were big threats to win. PLATINUM had the titular Joe Connelly as their lead, who had already won twice before and was looking for a third gold. The reason I put Midtown and Three and a Half Men is because Midtown was in the FRED position where they were looking like they were going to win, but Tony DeRosa (4-time champ) had a new quartet show up and look really strong, like PLATINUM in '99 (which also had Tony in it, interestingly enough). Hope you enjoy!

The great two extra bits to this song were A) Connelley coached FRED, so he was in on the joke; and B) FRED won this international convention in 1999, and PLATINUM scored second place - only to win the next year in 2000 - which means FRED is the only quartet to ever beat PLATINUM!

"Listen all you judges in the hall. Please put down a number, make it tall. Heck, ya might not need to score at all." 5 perfect scores from the PER Category
  • I love it when they take their craft very seriously, but don't take themselves too seriously. I guess I tend to lean toward the comedic pieces as my favorites. Fun watch, and great transcription, as always.

    The history rewrites itself 😂

im gonna love seeing three and a half men get the gold medal! Jason fielder, are you going to international? would love to sing a tag with you!
  • Tony D and Ox are back. Sadly, quartet on quartet violence is a bit of a lost art. Fred, Storm Front, and Lunch Break would jump at the chance, but I doubt any of the current contenders except maybe NF4 would be willing to "go there",
  • This wasn't even the best hit on Connelly. Crossroads got him good in '08(?) with "Just a Lead Named Joe"
