Simple solution...move the temple to a place that doesn't have height restrictions.

I am an LDS. We are taught to obey the law of the land. I support the Council’s decision.
-
Make the temple smaller…it’s very easy
-
As a member of the church, work to find a solution and to obey the laws of the land. Everything will be fine and everyone will be satisfied.

The temple wasn’t rejected, the size of the temple was. I was raised in the church and was always taught that we obey the laws of the land. I was taught to not cry about being persecuted, but to turn the other cheek and continue being loving and kind (although no one ever persecuted me). I was also taught to be a good neighbor. I could have recited all this as a child in primary. I feel the church can do all of these things, build the temple while being respectful of local concerns, and also have locals leave this event with better impressions of its members. I was also taught the temple can be anywhere that is dedicated with the proper priesthood authority, which is what made the restored gospel priesthood such a gift. Talk of necessary temple height or fixation on any specific outer building specifications being necessary for worship sounds utterly strange to me.

I’m not disappointed that the Town exercised its right to review a request and then after due diligence simply decided to not approve it. That’s the process. Next request just needs to conform to the Towns regulations. As simple as that.

At least everyone was civil and respectful.

Just stop arguing brothers and sisters (of all faiths). The church will most likely find another spot without lawsuits, etc because the church presidency recognizes the rights of folks who live in that area, ok? Some may have prejudice, but many do not. We’re all God’s children, folks. We need to play nice❤

Hope they find another good place to build. They’re good people

No question, a Baptist church at the same height would be approved in seconds. This is all about religious bigotry against Latter-day Saints.
-
LDS temples are either in good neighborhoods and/or the neighborhoods become better (think property values). Both sides should work together get it done.
-
I'm embarrassed the church is acting this way. Whatever happened to obeying, honoring and sustaining the law.
-
It seems ironic for a temple to violate ordinances
-
Disappointing, but not a real obstacle. Temple architecture is fairly flexible. We can build something lower to meet the zoning requirements and still have all the blessings of the temple. The Lord’s work always goes on.

The Church is playing the Religious Freedom card but the issue is with the building code that every other church has had to build within. The building codes didn’t change for the others so why does the LDS Church get special privileges? The problem is with the height of the steeple- it’s too high. So lower it to meet the building code. There are plenty of LDS temples that have ON steeples or spires. They don’t need a steeple to worship in their temples so playing the “persecution” card isn’t going to work. The LDS Church is trying to bully Fairview Council to get their way. Stand up to bullies!

Why was a Methodist Church that exceeded the height restrictions(it had a 154 foot bell tower) unanimously approved by the city council, but when the LDS Church builds a Temple that exceeds this height restriction it is unanimously rejected? Strange…
-
The previous prophet Gordon B. Hinkley would have never done this! I'm so dissapointed in our leaders and members for fighting over a steeple! Have we become a "prideful and stiff-necked" people like in the Book of Mormon? Its like our leaders don't practice what they preach.. Do the right thing, be respectful, be kind and neighborly. We already won but we are GREEDY and want MORE and to win everything. The true church (big elephant) coming through everybody move get out of the way!!! (mormons you need to understand the devil is cleaver and he hides in holy places) Pride is the greatest SIN for all religions.

The LDS church is losing its way. The arrogance displayed made me ashamed of being a member.
-
They didn't deny the temple, they denied the height of the spire
-
Yeah- let’s pretend their problem is a spire
