Little need be said of this man for those of you who know Noam Chomsky.
But if you did not know this man, you stumbled across a most important and most intelligent man in human history who is equipped with an indescribably enormous knowledge and acumen.

Dr. Noam Chomsky is a renowned professor of linguistics, best known for his theory of universal grammar.
He is better known as a critic of world politics.

This video is an interview in the scope of cognitive science and philosophy.

If you are interested in his scientific insights, this is a great video to watch.

I am a beginning Linguistics student! Thanks for the vid. I wish TV was still like it was when they made this program.

If you don't like his voice, then just read his books. He's as sharp and formidably informed as he has ever been.

SO FAR, SO GOOD .. THANKS.
  • @nihonbunka
His eyebrow appears to be a unique phenomenon, without significant analogue in the animal world.

Whenever i watch ultra intellectuals like this i always have the feeling Graham Chapman of Monty Python is going to show up and say.. "Stop that.. its silly"

why are both of the top comments about a trivial grammatical issue in the video's description, rather than about some of the profound ideas discussed in this video? it just speaks to the pretension of the majority of youtubers viewing intellectual videos, merely to stroke their own egos rather than to actually learn something.

You obviously do not understand the difference I mentioned. "a most important" can be rephrased as "one of the most important". Get it? Your comment is even more foolish than the other guy.
  • @fastballonly
@addiction55595 Do you want to elaborate on your remark? What are you trying to say?
  • @fastballonly
@addiction55595 This comment is a reply who does not notice an indefinite article in the description I posted. I will paste my description as I uploaded it. >"a most important and most intelligent man in human history who is equipped with an indescribably enormous knowledge and acumen." There is a big difference between "the" and "a". Now what do you say?
  • And excuse my bad punctuation - I was a bit upset, too, I guess. ;)

Thanks for your comment. I posted this video. I apologise for the superfluous exchange on English grammar. I actually intended for people to discuss the contents of the interview, but I was met with an incorrect accusation that I had to respond to it. Anyway, this interview is a very interesting one. As Magee said, the topic borders psychology, biology, philosophy, linguistics and so on. If you or anyone could share some insights on the matter, I would appreciate it.

Just as a quick example, i could take a ride in a rollercoaster and say the ride was "most thrilling" without actually grading the experience towards any other i might have/have had, you wouldnt associate this sort of phrasing with someone brittish and perhaps of some age, comming from someone young and unbrittish it would seem rather pretentious

@melkior33 Thanks for your comment. This is a video from the 70's. The interview is Brian Magee, who apparently is an expert of philosophy in general. He later published a compilation of interviews of this type, I forget the title though. Linguistics is indeed an interesting branch of science which relates to psychology, biology, physics, philosophy, neuroscience etc. Good luck with your studies. I am still learning as well.

@maximusmmic20099 Your comment happens to be the most intelligible thus far.
  • Maaan ! you must be steamin. Did you have a bad day ? I cant believe you know this mans work and then go and poor that heap of crap over him. His intentions may be discussable, because I cant look inside his head either, but could you get like more detailed ? I honestly honour this man, I thought he was about freedom of science and education - am I wrong is he a Phoney ? please tell me go prove it - I'm interested! But please stop yelling at us. Thank you.

you probably shouldn't go out of your way to correct the poor lad, when you know you don't have any good understanding of his message :) "a most intelligent x" doesn't in any way imply that someone is the The Most Intelligent.
