Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could youtube.com/post/UgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRD… . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.

Bought a 500 for an ultralight rod. It's very smooth enjoyable.fishing recommend casts great. One odd thing- the bale wire is a bit heavy diameter in my opinion for a reel of this size. But a great purchase.

Thank you. Spindle full of line. Works terrific now. First reel oiled in 60 years!
  • One trick I found is to carry a can of compressed air like you would use on keyboards. If I fish in the rain or reels get wet I blow the water out as soon as I’m finished. Good tip on the handles. That’s one area I never considered. Good video.
  • I only fish 15-20 tournaments a year and your method for oiling your reals is perfect for me. Also forget about the critical remarks. You are not trying to impress the reel repair “experts” you are explaining this for the majority of us. Thank you Frank K
