Prince of Darkness Dream Sequences - I thought it would be interesting to string them all together, don't ask me why I just did :)

Nice to find I wasn't the only one creeped out by this scene. I've often pondered what makes it so effective - is it the voice, the hand cam footage or the fact we're pulled towards the figure rather than sensibly backing away? I think John Carpenter tapped into something primal, a child's nightmare

"This is not a dream..." is the best line for dream sequence still shines.

This movie is so underrated, this scene alone was chilling and even today, has a seriously dark and ominous feel. One of my favorite horror movies of all time..
  • These days, this particular scene is classified as "analog horror". It's such a great scene.
  • This was is such an underrated movie. I am always stunned when i see 1 star next to it. Ahead of its time.

What always freaked me out about this scene (especially seeing this as a kid) was that this was their only choice. To send a mental message back in time to prevent this horrifying shit from happening.

the whole concept of future transmissions to past through dreams was quite interesting.. added a whole new layer of depth

One of the most scariest moments in horror films. Simple, yet the most effective in its raw form that plays on the fears of the devil actually arriving.

I think this shit is the only thing I've ever seen in a horror movie that truly unsettled me.

This scene tripped me out so much that I'm still chrecking it out 30 years later.

Silhouetted caped figure moving his arms a bit: terrifying as hell. Today it would be a CGI demon or something that looked ridiculous and cost $5 million to animate.

Even out of context, these scenes are horrifying. I used to have weird dreams like this that were confusingly ominous as a kid, and I remember watching Prince of Darkness for the first time and being so creeped out that I had hesitated going outside (it was night at the time). The science fiction aspect that John Carpenter wrapped around the supernatural elements was pretty fucking genius and still is worth a look to this day. Alice Cooper was a good addition too.

These dream sequences along with the Salem’s Lot window scenes take the cake.

I've seen this movie a few times in my life but each time this scene makes the hair on my neck stand up. Tingles down my spine. Classic movie.
  • One of the best parts about this sequence is that the way it plays out has you asking if they succeeded or just ushered in the apocalypse. Few answers are given and it’s a brilliant choice by Carpenter

This movie was fantastic, scientists and priests working together to prevent the end of the world. And this sequence is telling us that there are people still fighting in that dark timeline.
  • For years and before YouTube, I remembered these parts and couldn't recall the movie's name. It literally haunted me. Many people I've talked with since learning the name of the movie remember it as the movie with the creepy dream sequence.

Actually what the voice says is "You are seeing what is actually occurring for the purpose of causality violation." Earlier in the transmission you also hear the voice say "You are receiving this broadcast in order to alter the events you are seeing." So they must have believed that there was a chance they could change the course of events.
