Self-awareness is that thing many people claim to have but in no time at all you know this person is completely unaware of themselves. Our versions of reality seem to fall in line with the narrative and stories we constantly remind ourselves of, but the truth is, we’ve constructed a reality shaped and influenced by emotions that were never truthful from the beginning. Robert Greene, just released another book, The Daily Laws, and he joins Tom in this episode to share his profound wisdom and understanding of human nature. He beautifully peels back the layers of complexity around how we are able to perceive the world around us and the way in which we fit into our own stories. The main point Robert drives home is the power of detaching yourself from the emotions and egos to take an honest assessment of what you are truly experiencing.

QUOTES:

“Deal with the world the way that it actually is, and not the way that you wish it were.” Tom Bilyeu [0:26]

“We completely take appearances for reality. That's sort of the source of our problems and our misery to be honest with in life.” [1:10]

“When you're very young you're extremely vulnerable, you're extremely open to the energies of other people in ways we don't understand right now.” [6:38]

“So awareness is everything, the ability to look at yourself, realistically, and understand you're saying, see things as they are, see the world as it is. It begins with yourself, seeing yourself as you are.” [11:28]

“If we saw completely into ourselves, we would hate ourselves so thoroughly, we wouldn't get out of bed, we would all be killing ourselves, you do need a degree of illusion, you need a degree of self esteem and confidence” [20:14]

“We're so attuned to what's cool, to what other people are doing out there, what other people are saying that we lose kind of an intuitive grasp of who we are.” [22:50]

“The source of your power in life is your attitude towards the world.” [25:17]

“When you take 100% ownership, and you look at your life and say, My life is an exact reflection of choices that I've made. Now, if I want it to be different, then I just need only make different choices” Tom Bilyeu [32:39]

Which ‘Law of Human Nature’ did you find to be the most interesting? Why?

As someone who is kind of starting over at 31, it helped to here this guy saying he didn't bloom till mid-late 30's. It's never too late to change the trajectory of your life ! 😁
  • “Deal with the world the way it is and not how we wish it were!” Powerful 💖

Look at yourself instead of blaming other people. The hardest yet most liberating thing.
  • For anyone out there who doesn't feel confident enough. Do what you can, with what you have, where you are. Don't let others define the world for you. Get up and grab the opportunities. Have an awesome day! 💖🙏

"People who go into the depths are slow, deliberate, take time to think, more thoughtful, more patient, and that's where the greatness comes"💯👍

I choose to disbelieve the importance of starting young when it comes to self-development considering I'm 47 years old and finally able to see/absorb information to the degree where I can not only process it but use it for change and growth. I'm considering my 47 years (and unfortunate zip code, autism, lack of parental guidance/encouragement in childhood, physical conditions and traumatic experiences collected over time as a result thereof) as particular challenges I have been handed in order to develop the unique and infinite capabilities I have been carrying but could not release without the proper sequence of events, like the combination on the padlock of my potential. Yeah, I'm late and Yeah, I'm challenged, but I've got moxy, damnit, and I'm freaking awesome.

To the person reading this, don't let the challenges of life bring you down. You are strong and capable of overcoming any obstacle. Keep pushing forward, and good luck on your journey! 💪🏼🌟

"Emotions are essentially a disease looking for a remedy." Yes! So many times we take emotions at face value when they're actually somewhat coded messages trying to get us to really honestly fix something.

For those who are struggling and depressed, I know it isn’t easy. Especially hard to go on when you don’t feel validated, and when everybody around you seems better than you. It’s not all your fault, you were dealt a bad hand. But have faith, a bad hand might be a blessing in disguise, you never know. Never give up.

Robert Greene - One of the greatest minds. He really “cracked” the humanity and has such a clarity of understanding and ability of communicating these truths succinctly
  • My mind is always blown hearing Robert Greene, reminding ourselves of our mortality is the best way to live a life of gratitude! His description of the sublime has shifted my perspective to how crazy/beautiful this world is we live in! Thank you Tom for having him back on and asking awesome questions!🙏

  • My Emotions is a long term broken heart + broken soul... I ran from "violence's' , but even worse the mental belittling, Words that Even I today would never say to a 5,6,7,8,9,10 year old child. So I ran & lived on the streets @ 10yrs young... But hey just sharing in a positive outlook now... Stand tall... Thank you.
