I always liked this as a kid but got lost. Loved the game's vibe and open areas.

Glad to see someone else who has this as their favorite Castlevania. Honestly, it's the only one I've ever played that I really enjoyed. I was only like 7 when I played it, but the whole thing was like trying to solve a mystery and I loved that. The straightforwardness of other Castlevanias around the time just didn't keep my neurodivergent brain occupied.
  • Heavy metal, and vanquishing evil abominations. Is there a better selling strategy? I think not.

I liked hearing a different take on the game that wasn’t just "boo hoo it sucks!" The game definitely has some very nice elements, especially the music and atmosphere. Nice video :)

I first beat this game the last day of school. The end credits music made that day feel so much more epic. I had to rent it and re-finish it for the last day senior year as well, just because.

It's "over hated" but clearly not the worst game in the franchise, especially if you judge it considering the time it was released. Played it in 2008 and loved it.

easily my favourite nes soundtrack, could be arguably my favourite soundtrack for any system.

Castlevania 64 originally got a lot of hate by fans but praised by critics but luckly people now realize how underrated it really is despite it's slight flaws with the camera.

This has long been my favorite Castlevania since a neighborhood friend of mine showed it to me as a kid. We spent hours playing through the game and scoured back issues of Nintendo Power for every secret we could find. The day we beat it was an amazing day for us! Then when we went back to play it again months later we beat it quicker and discovered multiple endings! That blew our little minds. Easily in my top 10 NES games
  • My only gripe with this game is being sorta forced to speedrun in order to get the best ending. Other than that, love it just as much as the others.
  • I played this on virtual console awhile back. I actually don't mind getting lost, it really exercises your brain to think about where you are. Also, if I did get really lost i would use save states to go back. I know that's kind of cheating, but I think it's fair for a game like this

I have always said that Simon's Quest was the best Castlevania game until SotN. I was 12 or 13 when it was released...

Castlevania 2 is your favorite Castlevania? I… I’ve found my people! At long last, I’ve found my people!

N64 Castlevania had a Day/Night Cycle, but it didn't increase the strength of the enemies. If I remember correctly, certain events would happen at certain times of day, and certain doors would only be open during the day or the night
  • Castlevania awsome Franchise I used to play this one too and not my favorite but still a good game my Favorite castlevania game was castlevania 64 and legacy of darkness I hope someone makes Rom hacks of thouse.

Honestly, I would probably choose one of the black and white Game Boy versions, if I had to choose the best Castlevania game. I'm not a heretic, I'm a nihilist, okay?
