In this RV video, we show you how to empty your black water tank at home and we answer the question - Can I Dump RV Tanks at Home?

Sometimes we boondock or stay at a campground with no dump station and we need to find a dump station on the way home or empty our black water tank at home. But we wondered: Is it legal to dump RV waste at home?

We did some fact-finding and discovered that in our jurisdiction it is ok to empty RV Black Water Tanks at home. It's ok to empty grey water tanks at home too. And it's a great way to dump your black tank for free.

But local jurisdictions and counties in every state have different laws. So be sure you are allowed to empty your black tank at home where you live.

We live in a neighborhood where we dump the black tank into a public sewer. But I used to have a septic tank so I wondered: Can I empty my RV into my own septic tank. And, of course, the answer is yes.

So in my case, the answer to is it legal to empty RV waste at home, is yes.

Learn how to identify the sewer or septic connection where you can empty your black and grey water tanks. And we also cover the best sewer hose and connections to dump your RV sewer system at home.

One of our favorite products to empty an RV black or grey water tank is the Rhino Blaster Sewer Tank Rinser with Gate Valve. The gate valve makes it easy to flush the black tanks after each dump.

We hope you enjoy the RV info and knowledge we learned about how to empty the black and grey tanks in an RV/Camper at home in our RV how to video!

it has probably been commented upon, or you cover this later in the video, but a best practice whenever using a water hose In contact with black or greywater. consider that hose CONTAMINATED! Buy a black hose for this purpose! And keep it separate with your dump hoses. Also, invest in a one-way valve for the connection to the dump hose. Some lessons learned during 30+ years in RVing.

Some localities dont like the idea of dumping RV sewage into the city system. a friend of mine was having his entire home sewer line replaced ($$$$$) and he has a big motorhome, so he asked the plumber if he could install a dump station for the RV along the driveway where he usually parked it. The guy said, you want me to install a cleanout here along the driveway? My friend said no, i want to dump my RV tank so I want a dump port right here. The plumber looked him in the eye and said. You dont understand- you want a CLEAN OUT here, because the city doesnt allow a dedicated dump station to be hooked up to city sewers, RIGHT??? My friend finally got what he was saying. Yes sir, i do want a cleanout installed RIGHT HERE.

I just wasted 20 mins watching a video of some guy using this same setup to back flush his tank, but he never closed the gate valve and was complaining about how this product doesn’t work?? Thank goodness I found your video to do this correctly. I’m no expert but I knew instantly he didn’t have a clue what he was doing! Thanks for the professional advice.
  • Due to the informative nature of this channel and that you were kind enough to blue out your blank tank water and also your concern for your neighbors, I subscribed. You dont find people with that kind of caring and manners anymore. Thank you.

Thank u so much for not assuming ppl know certain things, u just explain everything and break it down so everyone understands it! Your videos are so informative and I love watching them!! Thanks and God bless

Hi RV Blogger! Thank you for the video! You're an excellent teacher and you shared some very useful tips. I appreciate that! I'm a single woman taking this on with little experience, so every bit of information I can glean from the pros about setting up and maintaining my RV is helpful. Hopefully there'll be a man someday who'll share RVing with me and will take on the more difficult tasks like this one. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
  • Recently purchased my first Motor Home its a1990 Fleet wood south wind class A so new to the RV life U-tube and and all the video's have been a life saver thanks for taking the time to do this so very appreciated by this newbie

Great video. Most Florida homes have sewer clean outs usually found somewhere near the outside of a bathroom often in the shrubs. Sometimes not easy to find but keep looking. Valterra also offers a Sewer Solution gizmo very similar to the one in your video. I’ve been using it for over a year with great results. Thanks again, great vids!
  • @niaralosusa
Thank you so much for sharing your RV knowledge with us. I really like your positive vibe and patient delivery. Way too many YT channels seem to bash their viewers with insulting videos titled "don't be an idiot" or "never do this/that" or "you are doing this/that wrong." I skip right over those.
  • @GROOMERS0
Thank you so much for this video! We do have a public dump station for county residents, but THIS is so much easier! I had to get extra hoses, but man oh man, am I grateful for this video! I can fill and rinse my black tank as many times as I want! Thank you so much!
  • @lewisconner2774
Great video. As a new RV owner, this is by far the most challenging thing I considered before purchasing. I am not a plumber and have no desire to be a plumber (utmost respect to those that are), but this video and the Rhino Blaster will solve any concerns that I have. Thanks again for sharing.
  • Thank you so much for your videos! I am a newbie, and trying for figure the water tanks out. You have helped so much.
  • @808mauigrl808
Thanks for this. We live in Maui and there are no dump stations and we are looking into purchasing a RV. We don’t know anything about them so this has been so helpful. They are not common here. I have only seen about 3 RV’s here. So I knew there had to be a way. Our kids have never been camping and so this would be great to start doing that and still have the luxury of a bathroom and bed.
  • @coachtalk1
In 1989 my dad fixed two clean outs for our sewer because he purchased a class c. When he would come back from trips, he would dump there. Great video…. I still live in the house and am planning on buying an rv soon. He also wired the house outside so he could plug up.
  • @kennethmc2601
I knew this video wouldnt be complete without a Cousin Eddie reference
  • @trex2092
No problem, my driveway is higher than my neighbors garden, he keeps raving about the size of those watermelons and squash, can't spoil it for him.
  • @Carweizer
Came across this video and great advise/clarification on a septic sewer and the storm drain system. My Father installed an RV dump on there house that I know live in and I also enforce the regulations for Stormwater in my local area. It's crazy what people think they can dump down there.
