The noise is a good thing. It's the lake freezing. If you go at night when it's freezing outside you can hear all the noises of the water moving and freezing at the same time. It's literally like a violin and other instruments that are playing. It's Beautiful.

I grew up in WI with a pond in our back field. Skating on it is one of my favorite childhood memories! You should get a push broom to help clear it a bit more too!
