The boys confusing 1917 as a world war 2 movie gave me physical pain 🗿

Diogenes is one of my favourite philosophers of all time. He is the ancient troll. Not only did he throw the chicken into Platons lecture, he also did many other things. Like, how he wandered around the street with a lamp in his hands in broad daylight, and when people asked him what he was doing, he answered that he kept looking for an honest man. Or when he was chilling in his barrel (yes, he lived in a barrel) and wanted to fetch some water to drink with his cup, he saw a child drinking from his hands and was like a child has beaten me in plainness of living then he proceeds to yeet the cup and used his hands to drink water from the river. Or when Alexander the Great (mind you, this guy startet to fight in wars since his teenage years and was a general with 16, who led thousands of soldiers to war) visited him to fulfill a wish for him (you can look up why) he asked Diogenes if he wanted something and he said *yes, stand a little out of my light*. Alexander was struck by this and was impressed by his haughtiness who had nothing but scorn for him. They joked about Diogenes but Alexander said *But truly, if i were not Alexander, i wish i were Diogenes*. And many more 😊

23:57 As a Japan railfan, some stuff to clarify: There are WAY MORE than 2 train companies in Japan, even within the JR system (similar to National Rail), not to mention the private companies. What I think Connor is trying to say is that the Shinkansen (high speed rail) system is divided into two systems, separated at Tokyo station: the JR East/Hokkaido system to Northeastern Japan, Hokkaido and Hokuriku, and the JR Central/West/Kyushu system to Nagoya, Osaka, Hiroshima and Kyushu. They have separate toll gates and train sets, with different electric systems due to separate electric frequency between east and west Japan (50Hz vs 60Hz AC) 26:31 Hearing Connor hate the current Japanese sleeper trains (Sunrise Izumo/Seto) actually makes me kind of sad, since Japan used to have a pretty great selection of sleeper trains, including the 'Twilight Express' from Osaka to Sapporo and the 'Cassiopeia' from Ueno (Tokyo) to Sapporo, with steak dinner, nice beds and good service, along with the cheaper 'Blue Trains'. The vast majority have since been retired, and now the only way to experience high quality sleeper trains is to splurge for the tourist oriented 'cruise trains', such as the JR Kyushu 'Seven Stars in Kyushu', the JR East 'Shiki-Shima' or the JR West 'West Express Ginga Premier' and 'Twilight Express Mizukaze', all of which are bloody expensive and notoriously difficult to book. I do hope Japan does revive a more affordable yet good sleeper train service to more destinations, that is easy to book and satisfies more people, like how the Austrian OBB does with its Nightjet service in Europe. For more information in travelling in Japan, I recommend checking out the channels Kuga's Travel and Solo Solo Travel. Also do visit the Japanese railway museums in Omiya, Nagoya, Kyoto and Kitakyushu, they are excellent!

The Japanese business script is so real. Last visit, I ended up with food poisoning and felt it coming on. The room at the hotel we transitioned to, had a check-in time of 3p. I asked the staff if the room was ready, around noon. They said, "Yes, it's already cleaned and prepared." I can feel my stomach turning, so I ask them if I can check in sooner due to not feeling well. The entire front of house staff just stared at me like I had pulled out a weapon. They panicked and kept trying to see if they could contact regional management for advice. Eventually I had to excuse myself and spent the rest of the afternoon in the lobby bathroom unable to leave or move until my room was ready. 🥴 The staff must have understood the severity once I came out hours later to be walked upstairs... and so they sent me a gift basket with stomach medicine and hot towels.

57:46 This is wrong, there were NOT 23 movies released by Pixar since Coco, that was including short films and such, there were eight films released after Coco, they were: - The Incredibles 2 - Toy Story 4 - Onward - Soul - Luca - Turning Red - Lightyear - Elemental

As a pilot who got into airplanes at the age of 5, I agree with Grant and Joey where my core memories was planes and that basically made me into an airplane otaku today

You know, anytime I hear people complain about fandoms being toxic or annoying on twitter all I can think is thank god I don't need social media to enjoy stories. Because at the end of the day that's the real issue. For Garnt and everyone else that's part of their job so it can't be helped, but personally I never see annoying crap like that because I talk to my friends about the newest chapter and maybe look up a discussion post, so its funny to hear complaints about fandoms "ruining" the enjoyment of the content itself

I think this is the shortest trash taste episode ever 😆 The fact that it's still longer than 90% of podcasts and it's "short" is crazy
  • @cas6382
Connor's story of how he traumatized his mom by randomly beating his brother with a toy bridge as a toddler got me laughing so hard. It was just so out of left field geezus lol
  • @chinaman8888
What I think Garnt was trying to express in response to Connor asking him "why does the number of infinite scare you", is that humans have managed to invent an idea that is impossible for us to ever accurately measure/grasp/visually represent. There is now an abstract concept that will forever be beyond our ability to control, and we as a species instinctually try to control everything we encounter. It becomes terrifying when you think "what if this concept is actually true and not just some thought experiment, what if there is something in the universe that this idea actually applies to."
  • @locke2816
Garnt mentioning a desire for existential horror, I think he would love the game “SOMA”. It’s some of the best story-telling within the genre that I’ve ever played through.
  • @jme6036
Half of the Pixar films they listed are 10 minute short films
  • @meirosama
trash taste feels more relaxed and comfier now, everyone’s friendship and chemistry is great.

1:39:43 There actually is a (very well-known) horror movie about infinity-- kind of. Apparently, when the author of Bird Box (yes, the book that spawned the Netflix movie) was creating the "bird box monster," he was inspired by the concept of infinity. I think he said he'd heard somewhere that if a human were to hypothetically truly comprehend infinity, they would go insane, and that inspired the monster. I'm sure the idea evolved when the book was being written, and even more when the movie was being made, but it did stem from the concept of infinity. Just thought someone might enjoy this knowledge lol
