My Chronic Illness Story - Chef Julie Yoon

Published 2024-02-21
What I haven't shared with you is that I had been struggling with chronic illness for at least the past two years. I was either too sick or busy going to a bunch of doctors to even find time to film this video. As you know, I shared that I had Bell's palsy while pregnant, and when I think about the timeline, some of my illness I've been dealing with may be correlated to that. But although it's getting better now, it's still ongoing and nothing has truly been figured out yet. I now believe some of it may be related to stress or anxiety, so I'm taking active steps to try to manage that better. I also just wanted to update you on where I've been during my year long break from YouTube. I hope you noticed, because we sure missed you! Hoping for brighter days ahead and learning to deal with my "new normal." Leave a comment if you can relate if you're going through your own journey...you're not alone! It's wonderful to see you again. So thrilled that you are making videos and discussing real concerns and issues that do not have quick fixes! It takes a while to unravel and heal from multiple physical and emotional traumas. I can relate to that. I've always loved the vlog format and authenticity. Also...looooove my t-shirt! Butter Together! Nicely made too....sturdy! Much love to you. We are here for you in the Yooniverse... Yoonited! xxoxo

Julie, thank you for sharing! I haven't watched your youtube in forever but so glad that I did. Your symptoms are so similar (but different too) to my ollder sister who had her first child almost 3 years ago via c-section. Crazy amounts of vertigo, ruled out Meniere's, elimination diet, neurology consult after consult. She has cut out so much from her diet and still has underlying fear / anxiety that her dizziness will return. Will be praying for you!

I feel like stress is the root of the most sickness. Praying for your wellbeing. Shalom! ❤

I have addisons disease, type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis. When you talked about the vertigo or dizziness, I thought about addisons disease, took me 10 years of doctor visits to figure out. If you have low sodium have the doctors look at you adrenal gland function. Be happy and keep it together, there are always folks worse off than you.

Dealing with chronic illness myself I'm very grateful that you shared your story. After random brain aneurysm, that went undiagnosed for 3 months I was dealing with debilitating migraines for a time. What resonated with me was the fear of doing something that will trigger them and feelings of loneliness or being misunderstood. It's hard to deal with something that's only visible on the inside and can come and go any minute. Hope you will find diagnosis or a solution and I wish you and your family lots of health!

I got those symptoms when I ate some old tofu that didn't smell old, was not expired. Now I make sure the tofu is dated within reason. Good to see you again.

Oh Julie, As I’m listening to your story, I can relate to everything you mentioned. Although it was more than 10 years ago, I suffered from GERD as well. I went and did exactly what you did—visiting the cardiologist (stress test, EKG), the gastroenterologist (endoscopy, colonoscopy) primary doctor etc. I could not believe the doctors’ diagnosis because I was doing what they said and still didn’t feel better. I think that constant worry along with the stress, panic attacks was such a vicious circle. GERD caused me to lose 20lbs., as I was trying to follow their diet suggestions. Panic attacks were rampant-I remember being in the parking lot at Woodfield to drop off the children and saw an ambulance, thinking I would need to be taken away if I could not get myself together….. Happy to say that things are better….mostly gone. I would love to be in touch with you….please DM me if you’d like to talk.

Thank you for sharing. I have Multiple Sclerosis (diagnosed in 2012) and it can be a struggle to share with others or tell people how you feel or what is going on. Many people do not understand that fatigue for those with chronic illness is a nightmare which no coffee or amount of sleep seems to help. My best advice is to figure out your triggers (if you can) and give yourself a lot of grace. Much love to you my friend. And hoping you have many more good days than bad days!
  • @shaywilliams3358
I so glad to see you.I have been watching your old videos.Really missed your family.

Hi Julie you were definitely missed. I can't tell you how many times I kept telling my hubby that I haven't seen you posting. One night it clicked to me that there was no distance in prayer so on the days that you and your family crossed my mind I just silently kept you in my prayers. I am sorry that you have been going through so much but I'm glad that you are doing better. I can't fully relate to what you are going through but I myself have been dealing with quite a lot physically since 2021. I wish you continued healing and success in all you do. Lots of love to Joe Lincoln and Taylor as well. Never be afraid to reach out if you need to chat.
