“I kinda like shrek” is in the us government record of testimony. Incredible.
  • @skynet0912
I remember a tiny local sexshop that marketed their gigantic green "toys" as "Shrek-sized"...
  • @GoblinsAteMyCats
I was so mad at my grandma when she threw my shrek cups away. I really told her that I would rather be poisoned than drink out of a non-shrek cup
  • @ZelZel-04
“Moaning for swamp milk” is one of the funniest phrases ever spoken in the English lexicon and history cannot tell me otherwise💀
  • Honestly, the shrek onions weren't a bad idea. Kinda wished they had done a whole with green veggies. "Why are ogres green? Cause they eat their greens!" Would have been a good way to help kids eat healthy. What a missed opportunity.
  • @Metallikat
“They’re using Shrek to poison our children.” “Shrek has a powerful appeal to kids minds” Absolutely incredible
  • @SailorMaxie
I honestly find it ironic how Shrek was initially designed as a jab at Disney’s money making machine, but became so popular that it became its own money making machine.
  • Shrek was basically unstoppable in the 00s, even Toy Story had a hard time keeping up with the amount of consumer products Shrek had.

11:22 To be fair, branding onions with Shrek is genius; seeing as that's the food Shrek is most related with due to the "onions have layers" scene
  • @benm5970
Ah yes, 99% of these products are what we truly love Tasty green Shrek fluids

8:08 I kinda respect him for addressing that the character himself is not the problem, it’s the companies that tried to use his image to sell unhealthy foods to kids. Because I feel like some adult would just pin the blame on the characters themselves for selling stuff to kids, when often the visions of artists that create those kind of characters don’t always aline with the intentions of the companies distributing them when they get put on products.

People thought the minions were bad for being slapped on everything, but they don't even hold a candle to the amount of Shrek-branded items that could be seen in stores during the 2000s. The main difference being that Shrek wasn't absolutely insufferable
  • @MyT1m3
Can you imagine what it would have been like if minions came out during the 2000's?
  • @Kytheguy
I work at Goodwill and we have pictures of the Puss in Boots McDonalds glass taped up with a warning saying not to sell it. I've actually seen a couple of them get donated.

i love how genuinely hurt the senator sounds when he says “shrek now becomes a bad guy”
  • As a kid I had a Kid Cuisine with Shrek on the box, I opened it and saw it was a green tray and didn't think twice about it, eat my lunch and then threw the green tray away, a few days later I had another kid cuisine with Shrek on the box and noticed that tray was blue, didn't think twice about it, later had another kid cuisine (ate that a lot as a kid) with Shrek on the box tray was blue, was confused and read the back of the box and saw if you had the green tray you were a winner, I was so disappointed in myself
  • That’s a disturbing point, mascots can even make onions appealing to kids, now imagine the effect the sugar cereal and soda ads have
  • You just know some scientist making the swamp pudding was like "oh shit boss we messed up. This stuff turns your tongue green" And then some exec saying: "That sounds like an absolute win"
  • @cheeseboi588
The Senator trying to defend Shrek like they tarnished his good name is hilarious
