In today's video, I am going to show you how to turn a sketch into a fully finished design, complete with highlights and shadows...all without using outlines! This technique will also teach you how to use alpha lock along with the lasso selection tool...allowing you to create a really detailed look while only using a few layers! You can also use this method for your traditional sketches- just take a pic, import into Procreate, and start coloring! I know that this is a fairly long video, but this allows you to follow along with the full process in almost real-time (I time-lapsed one portion where I was repeating the same steps over and over again on the crab's legs just to speed things up a little!) Hope you all enjoy!

Really like this long tutorial. So many "tutorials" don't actually show you what they're doing. I learned a lot from this video. Please keep making them!
  • @acerock013
this is better than most of the SKillshare Procreate tutorials that i have been watching
  • i worried that it was gonna be too long but i was so entertained that i even forgot i spent 50 minutes watching this. it literally felt like 20 minutes!! great tutorial and im definitely gonna try some of this techniques in the future!!
  • Your pronunciation is so refined, it's reminiscent of a pilot introducing himself to the passengers over the intercom and explaining the flight. I subscribed just because of that
  • Thank you very much!!! I love the detailed tutorial. I have watched it 2 times today. First watched your process, then went along with you. Love it!!! Really appreciated it.

Thanks for doing these tutorials. I followed along and learned to make use of the freeform/invert selection tool and got a better sense of how using alpha lock works!

I really enjoy these types of in-depth tutorials. I love how you took your time and really explained everything—it makes it so much easier for me to follow along.

I’d watch more of these, length is totally fine! I for one appreciate the in depth explanations, and I’m glad I can find such an awesome resource for free. Thank you!
  • This was so well taught and for a beginner in art and procreate, I really appreciate the needed “handholding” with your detailed and clear instruction. Other tutorials I’ve found tend to move pretty quickly, but this flowed really nicely. Very surprised this was for free, but incredibly thankful for this in depth tutorial.
  • I reaaaally love this long tutorial! I was able to grasp everything you were trying to teach and I think it was extremely helpful to get me through the entire process.
  • @taniatren3109
Amaaaaaazing! I’ve picked up tons of tricks and tips on procreate that I didn’t even know existed thanks to you. They even help with product/industrial design sketches that I create, not limited to character design etc - thank you ❤️

I just purchased your brush set! Love them, especially the inking brush! Thank you ☺️
  • Absolutely brilliant - first time I’ve tried this and I’m really pleased with the results. A really clear and detailed tutorial - so grateful - not too long at all
  • @geomineblox
You have a teaching style that is perfect for me. Thank you for taking the time to explain little details like the invert on the selection tool! That’s a game changer! I love learning from you!!!
  • @cloudgoose
this is an incredibly helpful tutorial!! you explained everything so clearly and succinctly. as someone who could only afford a regular iPad I super appreciate the low layers count. all around, stellar tutorial. thank you SO much!
  • @jgroves980
Thank you for this tutorial! I didn’t mind the longer format as the content was so helpful! I do hope there will be more like this in the future!
  • This is exactly the tutorial I've been looking for. I lived that you went through your process, explained what you were doing and then showed us how to do it on Procreate. Please do more like this and you definitely got a new subscriber.
  • This was great, I love that you took us through your final touches.. Worth the extra time to watch.
  • @CoachIsabelD
Honestly love your tutorials. There are a few other Procreate tutorials out there on YouTube, but I keep coming back to yours because... you're a great teacher. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. This tutorial has been super useful for my upcoming project.
