Painting a Waterfall Deep in the Forest with Acrylics - Paint with Ryan

Published 2021-03-14
In today’s acrylic painting tutorial we paint a landscape depicting a waterfall running through the forest. This relaxing painting lesson is completed for the most part in real time and will cover the step by step process of how to paint running water, waterfalls, trees, leaves, foliage and branches. It's really useful to watch a complete painting beginning to end, with explanations on everything you do, the reasoning behind it, the effect you expect it to have, etc. Rather than keeping it at a really high level like other channels, you dive into the actual brushtrokes, and the way the paint flows onto the canvas. This is a level of detail that is missing in almost every other art channel, and I really appreciate it.

I'm very interested in especially painting water. I'm a beginner so watching this tutorial was very very helpful for techniques, learning values. the layering involved and timing it could take to create a painting of any kind. I was getting very frustrated and annoyed and thought maybe painting was not for me and I needed to stick to my drawings. Thank you for recording this video! I can now confidently paint water or a landscape and actually anything I desire with practice. patience and most of all having fun doing it! AGAIN. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

First i know this is an old video but im glad i stumbled upon this piece. It was definitely a journey! Just want to say thank you for reminding me it’s ok to paint and repaint and fix and adjust. Sometimes I discourage myself after I’ve worked something that in the end is not what i wanted. I get tempted to want to scrap the whole thing or give up thinking that’s the best I can do. But you empowered me to not give up and rather, just have patience and keep adjusting if needed. I don’t have to just accept mediocrity but keep trying when needed. Excited to apply this lesson in my next piece. Thank you! ❤

  • Thank you Ryan for a wonderful journey through this beautiful lesson. As a beginner, I would stop at some mess I make through the process, but after looking through this lesson, I realize its part of the process and to move on to make it beautiful. Thanks a ton.
