That was fun. I worked on the Universal Lot at various times in my career in the 90's. I don't think I had ever heard the tale of the buried KITT. That was cool.
-
I remember going to Universal Hollywood and they had a KITT you could sit inside and talk to it. They had someone on the other end talking to people inside it. If you asked a hard question or something they didn't know, they would say "I'm sorry, I can't answer that." It was the coolest thing. I grew up with KITT and had a Kitt with a Michael action figure and you could pull the license plate and hear pre-recorded sounds of KITT talking. I miss Knight Rider. Thanks for the memories.

Fascinating stuff! I was having visions of you stumbling into a big empty warehouse in complete darkness when all of sudden a distant scanner illuminates and begins darting from side to side before menacingly drawing closer to you! Be careful mate, that lost car could be KARR! π

We always love collaborating with you!
-
The plot really thickens. You can just tell, it's going to be a DeLorean hunt next !! π

I am lucky enough to have seen and even sat in the final hero car. It's in the UK and I saw it around 2006/2007 ish when it had just been imported. Was a bit surreal as I assumed it was a replica until I was told nope it was 100% the real deal. After looking at it closer it had all the knight rider studio mods, fuel cell in the trunk, no working tailights etc etc.

We really need to see a meetup with David Hasselhoff one of these days!
-
I got a lead for you. There is a Car Museum in Gatlinburg TN that I have seen a screen used KITT. It was the car used when KITT drove by himself because you could see the steering wheel in the back seat and a camera monitor so the driver could see. Hope this helps!
-
The one they maybe talking about is the KITT used as an attraction on the upper lot near the Jaws display. It would make sense that the SFX show building would be a storage.
-
I went to the universal studios in 1995 and from the UK there was a kit on the lot. You could sit in it. sometimes you got spoken to as well. I have photos of it as well from when we were there and when we sat in it
-
First of all, congrats on the idea & the execution of it! Second of all, man, every time I see that black silhouette, the feeling, it's... undescribable! I really hope some day you find the last remaining KITT (if there is one)!
-
How cool arriving at the studios in the Car. Someone has friends in high places for that access. Devon did well getting you in.
-
At this point, I swear you could make your own convincing KR episode, complete with story, characters and plot. Just call it a fan tribute! Is it even possible to get clearance for that?
-
It's Emotionally crushing that the SPM cars were smooshed. AJ and Joe know of at least 28 cars were used. Yes the 4000 was also on that very street.
-
This is so cool! How in the world did you get such unrestricted access at Universal Studios?
-
To be able to stand in Courthouse Square on the back lot would be a dream come true After all the films it's been in, it's iconic

My name is Devan, parents named me after this show lol. They said Devin was talking to Michael thru kitt during one episode and they said they turned to each other at the same time and said Devan!! or something like that. As my future name right before I was born in 89. I'm a mechanic fabricator and I've seen one of these cars in person, I think it may have been a replica but it was a rlly dam good one. I regret not asking the guy to sit in it for a selfie while I was talking to the owner lol. Woulda been cool if you found what you were looking for, but just make one man and make yours even better. You got enuff money? I'll build you one lol.
-
Thanks for the "not kitt" pointer. I was thinking wouldn't it be funny if the covered car was Kitt all along until that popped it. Another cracking video.
-
The second you said basement, visions of Pee Wee's Big Adventure popped into my head. I must admit, I wasn't on-board with all the KR nostalgia at first (preferring C64/computing content)... but darned if you haven't made it interesting and sucked us into your obsession. Good job.
