DuB-EnG: Modern Lithium Ion Rechargable AA battery Cells tested! - EBL, TENAVOLTS, KRATAX any good??

Published 2021-08-08
1.5v output from a lithium ion battery!! Impossible - nope - very possible - this is the way forwards for 1.5v AA cells. These batteries perform quite well, a little under their "specifications" but still will be far better that Alkaline, Mercury, NiCd or NiMh in terms of life and their longevity. Lets put them to the test to see if they really do what the manufacturers say, and lets pull one apart to see how it works!!

Just bought some of those Kratax, they do perform really well honestly and I'm gonna replace all the batteries in my devices with them as soon as they die. I have some Ni-MH 1.2V in use right now, these are going to end up in my old camera, because it can use those without any issue, has a mode specially for them. Hope that the Kratax can be used extensively without dying prematurely. I'm tired of always buying giant packs of batteries only to throw them away after they're spent.

i got some kratax and i actually love them. 0 issues so far

I was looking at reviews for lithium AA batteries because I have been tempted to try them. The EBL has an advertised rating of 3300 mWH hours and not 3300 mAh. So they may be performing closer to their advertised mark.

I wonder how long they would last in constant daily use before their performance drops to unacceptable levels?

I wonder why Duracell and the other major companies do not make these. I ceased buying from them because they leave me no choice.

Great video. I think I'll order some Amazon brand rechargeable batteries. I have a young daughter that goes through batteries like crazy.

Tenavolts sounds a bit like another similarly named product 😉 Put on your Tenapants to use our Tenavolts.

I wonder if those values take in to account the Buck converter efficency? The "rated" values might well be for the Lithium battery itself, but with the conversion I'd say you got damn close to what was expected (in 2 out of 3 anyway :) )
  • Be wary of use in radios, or similar devices that are sensitive to RF interference. Basically unusable in radios due to RF emissions.

This is a situation where being an early adopter seems very sketchy. I don't really want my AA batteries catching on fire. This video is a year old, already and I am not sure why the big battery companies aren't selling these yet. I suspect it is because they can't make them safe enough and they are worried about liability issues.

How disappointing, but great video. Like the disassembly, just be careful!
  • It's getting very hot! Let's take it apart What could possibly go wrong? 🥃 👍 😁
  • I just got the AmpTorrent AA pro gen 2 batteries. They all tested from 1.52-1.54V. Interestingly it’s says in user manual to plug in battery charger first and then connect batteries

Seams like a good test. Except the meater was on the NiCd battery setting instead of the lithium one.

All my gizmos that use AA cells run quite happily on the reduced voltage of NiMh cells. Just wondered what the intended use/market would be for these cells.
  • @borsalinho
thanks. can the cells w/ usb- Port can be charged in the covered charging device as well pls? Some DAWAIKALA shop @ Ali was friendly and seemed competent. Is there any brand u prefer from Ali for the AA/ AAA 1,5 Volt Li cells? keep up the good work
  • The fact you cannot fit as much lithium in the package is a poor excuse ! I have found as a rule of thumb with 3.7 v batteries, providing they weigh ok ( many lightweight forgeries used to be out there, not so much now ) 3/4 of the stated capacity is usually pretty accurate. Genuine Panasonic and LG are pretty much dead on however ' rounding up ' still goes on. I have found in the last 12 months most of the Chinese lithium batteries seem OK, the charlatans seem to have fallen away since the addition of compulsory VAT and the withdrawal of government shipping subsidies.
