"New Zealand, they played some great rugby but they made a huge amount of unforced errors and that gave Pollard the opportunity...that was the difference between the two teams that Pollard 50 meter kick and that came from South African pressure."

South Africa might not be the best team in the world but they have cracked the World Cup strategy, Stuart Barnes tells Stig Abel on #timesradio

  • France and Ireland were incredible. That French game vs SA was the best game I have ever seen.

50% strike rate for South Africa in World Cups. 4 wins in 8 tournaments. Incredible

Pieter Stef du Toit made 28 tackles in that game not one of them was high. Shannon Frizell (spelling) was more deserving of a red card. Firstly the neck roll and then falling onto the jackelers leg. Given the skill level of these players that’s a clear professional foul all day long. Getting Bongi off the park was a definite strategy of the AB’s.

Springbok Doesn't play to entertain they play to win. And that is more than entertaining but fulfilling.

This team is hands down the greatest ever!! We won the World Cup missing key players, tired from the grueling route to the final, with fewer rest days, but still we won. Magic!!! 👊🏿👍🏿👏🏿✌🏿🇿🇦💚💛

Some grey haired wisdom and actual analysis of the game. So rare to hear in the NH media. Even when the host tries to drag him into the normal NH Boks bashing... he stays on the point and analysis. Thank you sir. 😊
  • @robertfourie8257
The AB did not lose the match because of the red card or because of the officials. The AB lost because of two missed kicks which amounted to five points. The Boks lost to Ireland for the same reason - missed kicks! Robert, South Africa.

South Africa played brilliantly with what they had left in the tank after a hard fought path in the world cup. Every game every team had missed chances .. final score matters. Lovely watching tries being scored but its lovelier to see a winning score on the board imo as a spectator. In the end its just a ballgame but here at home it feels good to have won. Well done bokke .. lets try for five with three on the trot 🇿🇦

I think the thing that many commentators dont get is that the Springboks are all about the team, and the individual players are there to do their brilliant best - for the team. Then their pure determination to win showed through. We beat the best teams when it mattered. We delivered when we needed to. So who played the best rugby is irrelevant. Its called a competition for a reason. And we won. And not just for the sake of winning, but for a higher purpose, for what it means to to the country. That gets my utmost admiration and respect. There is a greatness to this Bok team that many people dont see.

The truth of the matter is that team for team, these Springboks are just better, but not only that, they are master tacticians, this is what running rugby only people don’t get, the Boks excel in all versions but just know which variation works better.
  • @dumisaralane
Springboks might not always play “the best rugby” but they play the most adaptable and varied rugby than any other team and are excellent with the basics. If you don’t like that you will have a sad 4 years.
  • @sniperdps
It’s so awful that the Springboks get accused of being what England currently is. Personally, I love the fact that each country plays their own style - I think it makes the sport richer and more interesting. But this Springbok team gave this tournament everything - at times tactical, and times clever and at times bloody brilliant. But of course, because we don’t play New Zealand’s basketball style of rugby, no suddenly it’s “bad for rugby” that the Springboks won. Such sour grapes.
  • @skageet
Actually, the Boks record is not that inferior against the all blacks recently. Over the last 5 years, both teams have a 50% win rate against each other. New Zealand went through a dynasty from 2010 to 2017 and won a lot, but over our history, we have tended to match each other.
  • @corneldebeer5578
I must say looking at all the media around the world one gets the feeling that if it was SA that got the red card (at the cane card) everyone would have accepted it and would have said thats the rules so sorry SA! I think most people just dont like SA winning and most want ABs to win… But if roles were reversed it would have just been “well done ABs you are once again the best…”
  • Isn’t odd that Endlands “best” performance was a kicking game. When the Boks kick, the whiny pathetic northern hemisphere media call it boring 🤡
  • Aaah, that’s so nice to hear 😊 Thank you for the lovely comments on the springboks From a springbok fan we also find this bunch to be quite special. Something different.. down to earth.. lads who wear their hearts on their sleeves. Wholesome and honest. It’s hard to believe. But it’s true. Refresheningly true
  • @600moo
England didn't play any rugby in that semi-final either. At least the Springboks scored a try. But England played that game very well tactically and no NH pundits complained about it. It's unbelievable how one-eyed NH pundits and commentators are.
  • @hanoitripper1809
Cane did what he always does and had already KO’d Henshaw in Dublin with the same exact technique.. now that he has a red for it maybe he will finally learn his lesson.
  • @geckosportz
6 to 8 week bans will actually help the Springboks win more titles as this will stress the squad depth more than it currently is. The Boks have the strongest depth and an even deeper player pool than any other team. Be careful what you wish for ...

I have a massive new respect for Stuart Barnes. Superb interview.
