Hunting Over Bait Piles - Simple Strategy

Published 2023-09-05
I set up this spot to help visualize how to use structure near a bait pile or feeder. While I do not need this pile of corn in this location with the food I have, it is a great way to show everyone how this simple trick can help get a better shot and keep from spooking deer. Hope you enjoy!

Great video. I was the one that submitted the question about the 750 scrapes i wasn't exaggerating. We worked 14 hours that day to get them all in, we didnt put scent on any of the them. We tied the leaves together brought them down to the right height and then used a weed wacker to get it to the bare dirt. It is a 300 acre property. Here is why we did it, we try to get a buck to stay on the property as long as we can. Scrapes give them more time to do this. I have seen the bucks work one of the scrape lines i have made for an hour straight and mature bucks too not just the 3 year olds. Multiple times. We only put the scrapes by our treestands or just a little bit away from them. That's just what ive seen im not trying to sound like a know it all, thanks.

Good tips. Most important thing about deer not facing you is it’s easier to evaluate the total scrotal length and decide if your deain with the β€œKing” buck or not. Good luck!!

Excellent video, an apple, pear persimmon, a particular oak tree, corn field, soybean field all essentially bait piles, you do you Terry don't worry about the haters, we hunt a wary game, love the venison provided, my grandkids also have more opportunities instead of freezing to death seeing nothing as when I was a kid. -William Liggett

Congrats to Brandon on a great buck. Is he not happy about harvesting that deer....he can't even smile. That is something that I just don't understand. They get to enjoy Mother Nature and harvest a great buck and then they don't even look like they enjoy it. Anyways, great video Terry....appreciate your efforts on putting these videos together.

Terry my son in law is a taxidermist and he took in a high 170-180 buck took at 4:30 Sunday evening and one other big 8 point took around same time that evening here in Kentucky
  • People that knock bait hunting saying it's too easy don't know what they're talking about. Deer coming in to bait are on edge always. A mouse fart will send them running away. Never had a ton of luck with mature bucks but great way to harvest does or get new hunters to see deer.
  • You have to bait here in NW North Carolina or you don’t see deer Great idea

I wish I didn’t hv to bait. But every neighboring landowner fence sit on bait piles. What can you do. You hv to compete
  • As Ted Nugent once said regarding hunting deer over bait β€œwe put worms on our hooks when we fish!” ….. wise words indeed!
