Iā€™m new to golf and 67 years old. I took advantage of lessons through the VA and I would raise my left heel naturally. Not one of the in house professionals told me to plant it! I have a friend whom is and has been an avid golfer for 55 or 60 years, heā€™s pretty darn salty too. He has been after me for the last 10 years to play and after taking lessons, I did. The first thing he said was, ā€œkeep your left heel planted.ā€ Iā€™m glad I came across your video and I thank you!
  • I have just returned to hitting balls after a break of 35 years - right now Iā€™m on the driving range trying to get back into everything again. I am 70 in a few months time but when Iā€™m swinging I find myself imitating the way I used to swing with not great results. The pro at the course advised me to just use my arms and not my knees/hips etc, but it feels awkward for me. I naturally lift my left foot anyway - but as you describe, I tend to hit the ball too hard and force it to a longer distance. Yesterday - I tried your method and boyā€¦it suits me so much - it is not awkward nowā€¦it feels better and my distance improved a lot. I will continue with this method and will hone it so I have better consistency. Feeling quite excited and looking forward to my first nine holes in a few months time šŸ˜Š

Thanks for your info.... as i remember.... the key is to put that foot down as the start of your downswing for the weight shift...not starting down with arms....which is why i probably tried to stop using it and planting my foot... eliminating extra movement. but at 72,,, i think i need it again....Thanks again, i will give it a go on the range tomorrow.... Excellent tip Philip on "Senior Golfers Defying Their Age With This Magic Move!" I've been playing this wonderful game now for 68 years and I have reached a stage in life where I have to redo my swing! In this video you point out how "lifting the left heal" for seniors is the answer to adding distance to their game. At one time and when I was a lot younger, I use to lift my left heal ala Nicklaus. Then, when it became popular to keep the left foot planted, I went this route and where I have been ever since. After viewing this video, I believe it is now time to revert back to my old way! Thank You Phil, this has been an eye opener! And, since I think your channel is geared more to the experienced golfer, I have become a subscriber! Well Done Philip! I'm looking forward to working with you!
  • @JTCulverhouse
Thanks Phil - this is the first video I've watched of yours, and I'm keen to give this a go on the range / course.
  • @markcrowell2727
I recently turned 61 - I just found your channel and have enjoyed the first couple of videos that I've watched!
  • So happy to have watched this video! I'm 63 and last year took lessons from a retied LPGA professional. She told me to keep my lead foot planted. I worked on doing this the rest of the year and although I did (keep my foot planted) I noticed a reduction in my drive distance - thought it was my swing (lack of rotation). Now, after watching this, I'm eager to get back to the range, go back to my old way, and hopefully regain some of those lost distances! Thank You!
  • @bootybandy
Thanks Phillip. It's a bit of a stigma when you mention raising your left heel off the floor in the back swing, but it looks as if it certainly releases tension. Going to give this a go tomorrow at the range/course. Many thanks.
  • @edwinlambley2801
Very true about left heal being raised. A lot of men looked at T.V footage and were taught by pro's who advised them to keep your left heal down because of Tiger's swing thinking that's how you get more power/distance. What it does give you is damaged knees and back.
  • @akrickm1
Thanks for information makes me feel better about being able to get back to playing again
  • @alangoudie2299
Thank you Phillip for a valuable, easy to follow very helpful video. I like your relaxed, friendly way of coaching & also your thoughtful, realistic comments to subscribers comments. I have a copy of Positive Impact Golf & find it helpful. Will the new book contain mainly new information or is it an update of your tried & tested approach? When is it to be published & how much will it cost? Your brother's advice helped me play golf to suit my ability ,fitness & health. Many other professional teaching golfers failed miserably when they wanted me to try & play in a similar way to young professional golfers. I was a primary school teacher who varied my teaching to suit a wide range of ability in my primary school classes. I still see some of my ex pupils & they tell me that they enjoyed being in my class. I am 80 years old & recommend either playing a relatively short course or playing off the red tees on long courses. That enables me to avoid getting too tired & usually have a satisfactory score.
  • @Henricule
Thanks Phillip. There is a lot on Utube ...I really like your explanationion and the way your bring to our attention. I will checking more of your vids...Cheers

You have made my day! I always use to lift my left foot and was told not too, I could not understand why I lost distance, I have put it down to becoming "old"šŸ˜¹You have a new follower all the way from South Africa šŸ„°ā›³ļøšŸŒšŸ»ā€ā™€ļø
