How To Make A Gate Self-Closing With A Gate Spring

If you want to make your outdoor gate self-closing, I'd recommend using a gate spring. I like these from National Hardware ( amzn.to/3Ov1Upc ). I have a 14" and a 11" installed which means my wood gate closes quite aggressively, including with a breeze, but most of the time a single 14" spring will do the job.

Can you Zoom out so we can see what you are talking about?
  • Perspective, please. The video is zoomed too much, we cannot see the whole area or even the whole spring.

This needs a re do so that you can actually see what is going on
  • all shots are too close to see how you installed the spring... I wish you shown the whole gate

I have to repeat what others have said. I am waiting for you to zoom out so we can see the entire gate. Even when you’re demonstrating the gate all you see is that wooden part but not even the entire gate or the springs. It would be an excellent video if you had some distance from the gate to be able to see how it operates, positions of the springs etc. as a whiter picture than the close-ups of the actual springs themselves.
  • 2:08 THANK YOUUUUUUU, i had no idea what the little metal stick was for. I thought we got a faulty item 😅

I for one would like to see it zoomed in closer. We aren't able to see the microscopic structure of the metal spring. Why would you not zoom in super close to reveal the atomic alignment within the spring? Please take the time to reshoot the video.

Full video is zoom mode. Can't see the opening and closing action.

I really appreciate your efforts. However, i need it zoomed out on the video.

Ok, I used one of these. I bought the Everbuilt kit from Home Depot. The instructions say maximum 3 turns, but after experience, and after what you describe, it’s just moving the screw no more than 180°, or three “flats” as I think you explained it. I tried to do it 3 full turns and the little stop doohickey got launched like a bullet and embedded in another part of the fence. Realllllly terrible instructions by the manufacturer. So people, this poster is right, don’t over tighten the top hex bolt. I’m gonna get a second one of these as you recommended.

Good grief man. Shoot that tight enough????? Wow.

Zoom out & actually open the gate so we can see it’s effectiveness

Your diagonal gate brace is on the wrong way, it's not supporting anything like that.
