The Liberal Democrat leader, Ed Davey, has said his party would not seek for Britain to rejoin the European Union in the next parliament, calling it a 'long-term' objective because the Conservatives had 'done so much damage'.

Speaking at a manifesto launch, Davey said he wanted to see the UK back at the 'heart of Europe', adding: 'It is clear you're going to have to have a step-by-step approach to rebuild that trust, rebuild that relationship.' Davey also said that would help the UK get a better trade deal with the EU

'Rejoining the EU is a long-term goal,' That is to say precisely nothing!

Rejoining the EU that's turning ever rightwards?

"They don't trust us because of the Tories" says checks notes David Cameron's former Trade Minister.

Who on earth wants to board the titanic just as its sinking? Take a look at the resignations - the rats are already jumping ship there.

I've got two names for Ed Davey; Nick Glegg and Jeremy Thorpe.
  • No thank you. Don’t you guys have anything important to do for the country. Always get back to that leaving/rejoining EU. There’s a lot more you can do. Lots of prosperous countries in the world without joining EU. USA, Japan, South Korea for example. If your country is strong , other country will join you.

I'm really quite impressed with the Lib Dems this election, and with their manifesto. Realistic, and yet pushing towards a better world than Labour will dare to do. And Ed Davey does really seem like a lovely man who's more down to earth than others. Even though I know we'll get either a Labour or Tory government again, I hope they do well this election.

Remember that we were hearing a lot of talk from the remain group about the EU protecting us from US interests last time. How's that going?

Makes total sense ....at least he's addressing the economic elephant in the room

Seriously need to forget the EU Sir Edward.

If it was a logical decision based on the wholly negative impact of Brexit on the UK’s finances and ability to do business then we should rejoin immediately. But the UK seems to be stuck in a dreamworld where leaving has brought some intangible, elusive and illogical benefit.

Now that the EU is going “Far Right”, he’s got a point.
