Our principal weekly Holy Eucharist anchors our worship life and prepares us for the week ahead. The Cathedral’s soaring architecture will point your eyes toward heaven as prayers, preaching and music open our hearts to God. Our worship is based on the traditions of The Episcopal Church. All who seek a deeper relationship with God in Christ are welcome to receive Communion. ASL interpretation is offered for this service.
CELEBRATING JUNETEENTH
Celebrate freedom as the Cathedral commemorates Juneteenth. This special Holy Eucharist features guest preacher Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie , President and General Secretary of the National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA (NCC), and music from the Cathedral’s Contemporary Worship Ensemble.
ABOUT THE PREACHER
Bishop Kenzie was elected and consecrated as the 117th bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in 2000. She was the first female elected to episcopal office in the more than two-century-old AME Church and is the first female to serve as President of the Council of Bishops and President of the General Board. Bishop McKenzie was appointed to a two-year term as Interim President and General Secretary of NCC. In this role, she will provide executive leadership to a diverse covenant community of 37-member communions with 30 million Christians and 100,000 congregations from Protestant, Anglican, historic African American, Orthodox, Evangelical and Living Peace traditions which have a common commitment to advocate and represent God’s love and unity in the public square. Bishop McKenzie is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, Howard University, School of Religion and has an earned doctorate from United Theological Seminary.

How glorious it is that congregants turn at the beginning, to greet the celebrants, and bow for the Cross, to honor the Presence of the Lord! This is different from transubstantiation, and not idol worship. Yet, it does acknowledge that “God is in this place.” And then to see the best display of contemporary and traditional music and worship every week. How joyous is that?
