  • Uncle Roger evolved even more from roasting chefs mainly Jamie Oliver to reviewing Food movies

As a Cantonese-speaking person, I just LOVE that Stephen Chow is still getting recognition even after all these years. His movies defined many of us Canto kids’ childhood. That’s why he is always the comedic GOAT.

I'm from India and people here are very familiar to Stephen Chow's Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle. But it wasn't until covid that I discovered this gem of a movie. I don't know how many times I must've watched this (in Mandarin/Cantonese). The movie like it's dishes transcend ethnicity.

One of my fav Chow movies ever. The scenes where he gets pummeled by the 18 Brassmen of Shaolin never fails to crack me up. That’s where he learned how effective of a weapon the simple folding chair can be. 😂

Fun fact: The actor who plays the guy who trigger the explosive is called Ng man tat. He and Stephen chow acted a lot of movie together and is known as stephen's sidekick in many movies. My fav from the pair is Fight back to school. Ng Man tat unfortunately past away 2 years ago but Stephen Chow still is alive. The pair was basically the god of comedy to us Cantonese speaker.

As a HongKongese, I would like Uncle Roger explain more about the unique way of Stephen Chow used to cook rice. It is called “Bo Jai Fan”煲仔飯. Literally means rice cooked in small pot. The pot is typically made by clay and cooked with charcoal fire. The finished rice will have a very specific aroma and a burnt crust in the bottom , which considerably the best part of the rice. They usually served with assorted meat of your choice on top, so the fat and aroma will zip down to the rice. Don’t ask for a vegan dish please coz we Hong Kong people also allergic to vegan. So weak…. If you want to get this Bo Jai Fan dish in Hong Kong, just visit Temple Street in Yau Ma Tei area, easily accessible by tube. And you will found in between all those prostitution and brothel, there are also quite some shop selling Bo Jai Fan with other seafood dishes.

I love how old movies like this that portray kung fu as both martial arts and magic, pretty much real life shounen manga, always a blast to watch

Oh. My. God. I've been looking for this movie since 1997! I remember seeing it with my grandmother on our flight to China but never found out the name of the movie and had almost started to believe it was some wonderful fever dream or something 😂 Thank you!
  • @Harrythebotar
I love the fact that everyone seems to be having a blast filming this. The actors seem they are trying not to burst out laughing in half the shots.

"Technically Jamie Oliver food can be called "Buddha Jumping Wall" also just in the opposite direction, He jumps over to get away from food" LMAO that part got me man. Uncle Roger never fails to make hilarious jokes about Jamie Oliver

This movie needs more recognition. I loved it way back. Still love it now. :D
  • 4:39 When Uncle Roger said that "They don't make movie like this anymore." I can say that sad but true, we are living modernity.

OMG! As a Filipino, I remember watching this movie as a kid, but my parents never told me what the movie title was. Now watching this scene again and finally knowing the title of the movie makes me wanna watch the whole thing again. So much memories! 😊

As an Indonesian, Stephon Chow's movies were childhood memories. This particular dishes is so mouth watering, it's the most unforgettable moment in the movie.
