I pray for everyone reading this to blow up this year

Spotify pitch description: - Tag social media - Suggest a playlist - What motivated the song? - Explain who your audience is - Mention reference tracks
  • I landed two editorial playlist this year. Gold Instrumental Beats and Moonlight Beats. In my pitch I like to describe the motivation for the track and what playlist it would be a good fit for. I think once you land one Editorial playlist it becomes a little easier to land more as they can see you have been previously featured. Also I am sure they look at your monthly listeners and followers so use other playlist to build that up (Ko-fi, Daily Playlist, Soundplate etc). Make sure your bio also contains keywords to your sound/genre and also link to similar sounding artists with larger followings.

Yes…as an artist myself with at least 3 tracks currently sitting on Spotify editorial playlists it is great to hear a little bit about their curation approach. I can’t believe how many artists throw away the pitching opportunity. Even though I create music in the calm acoustic guitar genre everything you talk about on your podcasts and videos is also quite relevant to my musical world too. Keep up the great work !!

Hello my fellow new musicians! I'd just like to say don't worry we got this! Keep up the good work!
  • Their genre and instrument lists are awful. Extremely localised unusual options in there, major genres or instruments not listed. I hate the fact that there is no way to contact anyone to raise issues like this.
  • when I tried this, this is what a representative told me. ?? "Please note that the option to pitch a song to playlist editors only displays if you have unreleased music. Please know that it’s only possible to pitch unreleased music. If the song has been released on Spotify before, you won’t be able to pitch it to our editors.."

Key points: If you think you know your audience(what they listen to) mention it. Take time with submissions(description, location, etc.). Link your social media and reference other songs that you think are similar to yours and are doing well.

Had my last few singles on over 5 editorial playlists. Watching the original masterclass + this break down I completely agree. Plan your release(s) out, and have a listen to a few editorial playlists to see where your music will fit the best and include them in your pitch. Hope this helps someone!
  • I found out that they can actually see the audio file when they are listening to each pitch and because of the frequency of how many they listen to per day , one key selling point to get them to listen longer is to see if there is a jump in audio volume when the supposed chorus hits. If they see it it’s another opportunity for them to listen to your submitted track for longer especially to your selling point like a chorus or hook.

I absolutely love Spotify. Ive found so many artists I wouldn’t have if I didn’t use Spotify. Amazing algorithm and personalization. Best of luck to al artists out there yall make songs that are better than the mainstream all the time❤!
  • So a couple of things: I’ve started to find out this stuff just off of firsthand experience and I would even give your distribution partner at least week because that’s about how long it took for just two tracks of mine. I submitted them on December 31st, only for them to get placement on January 7th. THEN, once it’s up there on Spotify, you have a minimum of two weeks time for the playlisters to review your music and place them. This doesn’t include any other form of marketing, which paired with word-of-mouth, social media, college radio submissions, and music blogs, a robust marketing strategy will produce a robust result. My 2¢.
  • At the moment of posting this comment, I can see that this channel is not the biggest on YouTube yet I discovered the most insightful knowledge about editorial playlists and curators in this one relatively small video. Right now, I have several tracks in four editorial playlists. However, I had to figure out many things for the last two years to get to this point. It was a difficult journey for me, which would otherwise be easier if I watched this video. Then again, it was uploaded only a few hours ago, so I have a feeling that my path is going become easier than before. Thank you so much for the video. I hope it will help a lot of artists. 💜

This has a lot of valuable information. It's nice to see how human and genuine the people who edit playlists are. Also it's nice to be refreshed in remembering how many people have never heard our old songs, and to revitalize them. Cheers!

4:17 This is the only stuff I didn't really know, but it's really helpful. It's nice to hear what is possible to add - basically that you can advocate for yourself more than I thought.
  • I recognized you right away! saw you at a show awhile ago and could never forget you improvised rap with random objects haha. Keep up the good wok sir!

Manafest?! no way!!! thanks for sharing man!!! 🤘🤘 "It's not impossible!"
  • @NALYRO
Unfortunately that is 100% lies from Spotify, now many labels and distributors has direct contacts to editors of editorials, if you don't have any contact on yourself or you release with a label who don't have any contact - you just won't get any editorials. Checked and it's 100% works like this nowadays.

Pro tip: start ur song with the chorus. Dave Grohl famously once said “don’t bore us get to the chorus”
