Backpacking Red River Gorge 4K - Auxier Ridge - Hanson's Point - Gray's Arch - and more!

Published 2022-05-22
Join me and Megan as we spend 3 days backpacking through Kentucky's majestic Red River Gorge. We begin by slack packing to a few arches (whistling arch and skybridge) then head to Auxier ridge loop for some great views (even in the rain!) and an even better campsite. Next, we moved locations and headed over to the Gray's arch loop with a night camping at Hanson's point. We finished with Gray's arch.

This was also Megan's first ever experience backpacking and she had a blast. I hope you all enjoy watching the trip- I know we loved experiencing it!

Another great video of RRG. You showed Megan some of the real highlights for her first trip.

Hi and thanks, Smolder Outdoors for sharing. Wowowow...this view is gorgeous...you are above the clouds and the sun is setting?1:13 OMG, I have been to Red River Gorge but I don't recall this area. The landscape is spectacular. May I ask if there is a name for this arch?...2:43 Is this the drone footage?...11:40 This is beautiful the green mold is all over the rocks...13:54 Did you encounter any wildlife while you were camping? Well done.🛶🛶🙋‍♀
  • Nice job! I was thinking I was already subscribed. To my surprise, I wasn't. Anyways, we took care of that! I'm also curious as to what were you using to film with? Some killer shots & effects! NIcely done!

Just fyi that first spot you camped at on auxier ridge isn’t legal. You’re within a few feet of an official trail…. 300ft is minimum for DBNF.

Hey Brent - Thinking about doing this exact trip in a couple weeks. Are campsites easy to find? Do you need an overnight parking pass or permit? Water accessible? Assume this area is pretty crowded?
