Right here in New Hampshire I was out metal detecting in the woods doing some relic hunting.. With my Fisher F19 metal detector I went to a colonial cellar hole that had been logged recently but figured I would give it a try. There is so much history here in New England which means a lot of stuff buried in the ground. I was swinging near the cellar and got a 78 signal which is good and it sounded deep. I started digging and out popped a coin......a silver coin ! I had a feeling that because this old home site went back to the 1700s that it had to be good. Finding old coins with a metal detector is fun but the old coins are not so easy to find out in the woods. Turns out to be a 1781 1/2 Reale coin , that's right Spanish silver from the 1700s. Now that is treasure hunting when you find old silver coins like that.

    I got into collecting old money after a surface find on my great grandfather's homestead here in Kansas ! It was a 1877 Seated Liberty Dime ! I was around 14 years old at the time ! Now I live about 50 miles away in a house that part of it was built in 1890 ! I need to get a newer metal detector as the one I have was my dad's back in '70's !
