I think that while still a selfish and horrible person, the line of "Great Alastor Altruist died for his friends" is indeed a mockery of what the situation would seem like if he'd died, this doesn't mean that he isn't developing some sort of attachment towards some of the gang. That said, for someone like him, considering another a friend doesn't automatically mean "I will care for you", at least not in the traditional sense. He is still going to manipulate them, use them as he sees fit and, if necessary sell them or betray them in any way. But while this isn't the scene that conveys it for me, his little conversation with Niffy, when he says "One certainly could get used to this" is where I thought: "Huh, so he is warming up to them". Again this doesn't mean a "caring, loving friendship" like other people could have, just that he won't consider them easily expendable, and more of a "well, as long as I have other means of attaining my goals, I won't dispose of you for them" Also, it is pretty clear that him fighting Adam wasn't for the rest of the gang, I'm not sure if him fighting Adam was purely for him (Maybe wanting Adam's soul, or just making a statement of his power) but the deal "keeps his wings clipped" so he's not at his stronger, or if on the other hand he was somehow forced to confront Adam because of the deal, and having been so close to death because of it is what reinforces his desire to break the deal and unclip his wings, thus not having to risk his life like that again
  • Alastor has so much charisma that he continues to fool an entire fandom into thinking he’s secretly a good person.
  • “He secretly cares for them as friends” Are you all forgetting about how he literally threatened Husk with torture and murder and expressed his desire to use Charlie’s untapped potential for his own ends?
  • Anyone gonna talk about how it was revealed that Alastor is actively being weakened by whatever deal he made

damn Alastor really be stealing the spotlight for all these good songs we can't stop him lol
  • @AdmiralStoicRum
When he's saying great Alastor altruist died for his friends, he is merely reciting a narrative, not saying they are his friends.
  • @rct3LP
Alastor definetly sarcasticly says "Alistor altruist dies for his friends" and doesn't mean this in a literal sense. He wants freedom and someone binds him to help Charlie. He would go insane if he had died and people said about him that he died altruistically for his friends. He wants power and freedom nothing more currently. Maybe he has minimal simpathy for Charlie but not enough to overshadow his ambitions

Bro is only playing nice cause he’s contractually obligated to
  • @AstroPlains
Alastor seriously about to go on his angsty villain arc 😭
  • @EduzReeveM
He calls them his friends. I love that detail. He likes them and sees them as friends but he is still selfish af.
  • @PyroFlier
The saddest bit of Alastors lore is that he is incapable of not smiling It's been resolved, stop telling me I'm wrong
  • @kevj.3575
Am I the only one who sees him calling them "friends" as a mock? he evens calls himself altruist, almost like emphasizing what a dumb way of dying for such a trivial thing as "friends" that would be for him
  • Not Alastor having a mental breakdown while everyone is celebrating 😭 ✋️ Edit: first time I got 1k likes on a comment- thanks <3 Edit 2: thank you for 3k likes on this comment <3

I love how Alastor's earlier "what would the papers say???" Comes back in this song. When he talks about dying for his friends, he's imagining what the headlines would say if Adam had managed to kill him. His legendary rise to power and his overlord hunt would be forgotten, and his legacy would be that of a kind-hearted martyr who died helping sinners redeem themselves. That's unacceptable. He's the legendary Radio Demon, and he wants to make all of hell remember that they should fear him
  • @Ernest_thor_
that damn smile never lets me know how he really feels
  • @TheMC1102
Alastor is slowly but surely losing what little sanity he has left. He can't stand the fact that he actually took a liking to Charlie and her friends. He doesn't want to be seen as a hero, he wants to be feared.
  • I like to think the way he says “Great Alastor Altruist” as if it was just a title means he’s just pretending to be an ally purely to get in the good graces with Charlie

The dude almost went mad on the thought of people looking at him as nice person who sacrificed himself for his friends
