  • I bought a 1998 Avalon XLE gold edition in 2003 for only $11k that had 80k miles on it. I drove it for another 100k miles and all I did was a tune up, brakes, and struts through that entire time. I sold it with 180k miles on it in MINT condition for $5k. I drove that car for 6 years and it only cost me about $1200 a year. $100 a month for 6 years is amazing. It ran great, had wood grain, sun roon, leather, power seats, and I put a fancy radio in it that had hands free bluetooth for phones. It was awesome. Years later I wished I had kept it. It was the two tone pearl white with the tan bottom. Loved it. Recently I have been wishing I had my 2005 GX 470 still as well. I sold that to my brother about 8 years ago and it is still running with 240k miles on it.

Scotty, I've had two "timing belt" engines, one was a Toyota Forunner, same 3.0 l V6, (clearance engine) did over 400k, no problems. I've still got a Mazda MX5 1999, 1.8 l model, it's also got a belt and is a clearance engine. I see nothing wrong with the belts, especially in engines that won't trash if the belt breaks. I've got a Toyota 2.8 l diesel with a chain drive cam, I've been reading they're subject to stretched "chinesium" chains, unfortunately if this one breaks the engine is "trash toast"😭.

I changed the timing belt on my '99 Toyota when the water pump was replaced.

Use 400 grit sandpaper, rubbing compound and then light duty compound to make your headlights look good. seal with blue magic. Use a rotary polisher or drill and don’t forget to mask off your paint.

My sister needs a decent older car that’s all wheel drive at least, for the roads here in Michigan .. what is a good one Scotty for her, that’s a $3-5k deal and good motor?
  • @805NAVE
Scotty you are definitely MOCKING me hahaha! So I own this car, 2005 ES330 with even more options. Love it,buttery smooth, looks great even at 337k miles. BUT I also just purchase a V8 2005 GS430. And the brake master cylinder needs to be replaced. $1400 part !! $2400 job! What the hell!!! I still love the GS430 and I think it’s worth it. But the ES is definitely my daily and ultra comfy and dependable.

Scotty What's your opinion on Honda fits? Thinking of buying one 09 but I'm not sure
  • @mattpipke5716
Ill just say, life is short, you ger one go around, money comes and goes, and isn't everything, love, experiences, memories are way more valuable, never let a few dollars keep you from having something that you really want. I could have bought a lot cheaper car and been very happy with it, but decided to go with a fun car that appealed to me, it cost 2X as much as the original option but so what? I'll pay on it for an extra year, big woop, in that time, every time I get in the car, I smile, every time I drive it, I smile, and I have fun, enjoy your life. There is nothing lik a new Lexus or Acura, both amazing cars, Its good to save money and important but then there is a time to spend money and have fun, Scotty has made more money than he can ever spend and he is still stuck in the savings mentality, as he himself has said he hasn't spent 7k on every car he owns over the past 30 years lol, and hey good for him, someone should tell him, he cant take it with him and if he doesn't enjoy it, someone else will. Seriously obviously if you need to save money and save on a car obviously buy a used Honda that will run for ever, or a Camry or corolla, for a few grand you can have a car that might last ya 20 years, but if you are ok, not pressed for cash, can afford a payment and want to strengthen your credit, why not buy yourself a car you deserve? There is no one size fits all here, good advice for some people. Do what makes sense for you and your family.
  • @fireguy615
The car market today is vastly different than 8 years ago my guy, good luck trying to find any used Lexus for 3 grand
  • @DC-jy4zr

  • @too1leasy
Had a timing belt break on an old Integra. Made a nice little dent in the hood. :-/
