  • This was an easy vein tho 😢 I just started as a phlebotomist and most of my patients are elderly with health conditions (diabetic, etc) they are such hard sticks 😅

I know you’ve got years of experience, but CLSI standards change. We now anchor with only the thumb, rather than C-shape, to prevent needle sticks. The way you shook the tubes is also improper inversion and can cause hemolysis in the sample, which directly affects lab values and in turn, quality of care. I see that you applied pressure to the gauze while it was on top of the needle. That can be extremely dangerous for both you and the patient. Safety is paramount, and my mentioning these standards is not just nit-picky. Patients rely on accurate test results and phlebotomists are their last line of defense in preventing pre-analytical errors.
  • This doesnt hurt guys its the best way to draw blood and its like a pinch for a second and they got the blood

Love your technique. After u insert the needle, your hand placement on the needle line. To keep it in place. I was wondering how to draw the tubes w/o it slipping out the arm.

She did a pretty good job. The mistake I saw, was putting the tourniquet over the gauze you have to be very careful with every item that they will not be contaminated. Her procedure was good that’s the only floor I saw an instructor I’ve been in the Phlebotomy business well over 40 years. You have to be very careful on how you handle all the equipment
  • I'm a teen and I have extreme Trypanophobia, I'm gonna have to get my blood drawn soon due to some new meds, and I'm using these videos as desensitization. Thank you for making this video the way you did. Seeing the full process makes me less scared. <3

I'm trying to desensitized myself to blood draws rn :,) currently squirming where I sit feeling nauseous, yay

Me here watching different videos in the various healthcare fields to help myself overcome anything that would normally make me queezy or nauseous. 😅 As a 13 year and counting Airman, I have a hard time with some of our training such as TCCC (Tactical Combat Casualty Care), CPR, and anything that deals with the human body. I have so much respect for those of you who do this daily without skipping a beat or just powering through. I have interest in the healthcare field, just not sure I can stomach some of it.

Adding to other commenters: the tourniquet was firstly slapped down on top of the gauze that would eventually be used on the insertion site, potentially introducing bacteria onto the gauze that could end up in the insertion site (which is an open wound, however small). And the tourniquet was placed too early; you should disinfect the insertion site, let it dry, and then put the tourniquet on. We should seek to minimize the length of time the tourniquet is tied.
