Many years ago i was head pianist at the jonathan club,i was playing at the beach club when i saw lauren bacall out of the corner of my eye,i immediately started playing as time goes by like in the movies in that 30s style. She stopped walking ,looked at me, with the most beautiful smile ever, and blew me a kiss, and said thankyou to me .she was older but still beautiful, and she was exactly what she was ,a huge star from the golden era of Hollywood....and believe me she also looked every inch the star, tall and with classic beauty...i played for them all,but she was tops for me,what class ......
  • About 25 years ago, I wrote to Lauren Bacall and 2 other actresses, requesting autographs. I included an 8x10 photo and a SASE. Of the three, Bacall was the one I least expected to respond. I was overjoyed when I received Bacall's signed photo exactly 2 weeks later. It was the fastest response I had ever received in sending fan mail. Of the other two, 1 of them signed and returned my photo a few months later and the 3rd one never responded.
  • Superior work here!! No bashing, no judging. Just an honest, open faced docu-coverage, of a famous and loved American. I applaud all those involved with this. Thank you, from an old school American.....

I met her and listened to her speak about her life when she was older. She was clearly very intelligent. And clearly loved Bogey.
  • There's a story of Bacall having lunch in a small café with a friend and being recognized by a young woman. Bacall was asked "Are you Lauren Bacall?" , to which she replied, "what would Lauren Bacall be doing in a place like this?"

That "whistle" scene is really one for the ages. It's a wonder Humphrey Bogart didn't spontaneously combust when she said it, that's how hot Lauren Bacall was.

I started writing to movie stars back in the early fifties when I was a young teenager. Back then celebrities were very appreciative of their fans and fan letters. I have an album full of autographed photos. In later years I wrote a letter to Gene Tierney ( she was quite ill at this time) telling her how much I loved her movies especially The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. About a week later I received a card thanking me and or course her signature. She died ten days later. I hold this as a very special place in my album and my heart!

My favorite actress. I saw her on Broadway. Seeing her coming out the stage door to her waiting limo, with a wide smile and waving to us standing there, I was delighted to have seen her.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of Miss Bacall's birth.
  • I admired her striking looks and acting abilities in classic films. I felt her pain for her loss, because she truly loved Humphrey Bogart, father of her children. Then I saw her on « The Mirrow has Two Faces », by Barbra Streisand. Her performance there, at her age, was excellent. What is beauty? How worth is it without capacity for depth and interpretation? I saw her once again at Harry’s Bar in Venice and she was just as I imagined: just as beautiful and ageless, forever ✨

oh my god. Laying that whistle on his grave with that inscription is heartbreaking... I cant even 😭😭😭
  • Such a stunning and sultry actress. She always lent a look of mystery to film she played in. Bacall and Bogart together lent an air or mystery, sophistication and beauty to any films they acted in together. They were soulmates, so it seems.

She was talented, beautiful and elegant. She had a good life, and she had a long life. I don't think we can ask for more than that.
  • Like Gene Tierney, Lauren had a look that has never been repeated. We get look alike blondes and cookie cutter faces…but they broke the molds when they made Gene and Lauren.

That was such a heartwarming overview of Lauren, McCall‘s career and life. She was of another era and one of a kind.

I remember seeing her being interviewed and what she had to say about Sinatra was "See this floor tile? It has more personality than Frank Sinatra." He would have been a terrible husband and I doubt she would have put up with him for long. Good riddance.

To Have and Have Not and The Big Sleep are two of my favorite movies. Bacall and Bogart had such chemistry!

My father's cousin used to work around Hollywood studios with his parents. He was the same age as Lauren Bacall, and he claimed that his mother tried to arrange a date for him with Lauren when she first showed up at the Warner Bros. studio, before she was famous. He said that he refused the date because she was too skinny! I am not sure whether to believe this story, but it made a good yarn because nobody could imagine refusing a date with Lauren Bacall! It was credible, because the ages, dates locations all match up!

Despite the age difference, theirs was a real love story ❤
