3 Days in My Life with Schizophrenia

Published 2021-08-18
I wanted to share more about what my life living with schizoaffective disorder really entails. My hope is that this video sharing three days of my life will help to address some of the negative stigma around illnesses such as schizophrenia, and will help to show that people with chronic mental illness can lead full and meaningful lives, while still showing some of the realities of living with this illness.

  • My lord, this channel is single handedly raising the standard of this entire platform...even the internet.
  • You bring a sense of grace and decorum as well as a humanness to mental illness that has needed to be shown for a long time. Thank you for that 🙏

“You don’t look schizophrenic” has been said to me so often, it’s a relief to see a video de-stigmatizing all of the negative ideas of the disorder
  • this is really moving. Teddy is gorgeous and you look like you're thriving. I've followed you for years now so seeing you really living well makes my heart glow.

As a mother of a daughter who suffers with Schizophrenia, thank you for showing me that she can lead a very normal life <3 this brings me peace that i need.
  • I’m not schizoaffective, just bipolar, but I hope I can have this warm of a life with somebody someday 😌
  • Seeing you have a baby makes me so hopeful of the future, because my greatest fear is that no one wants a baby with me because I have schizophrenia! I'm so scared that future partners will reject me because of my diagnosis, but seeing your personal life gives me hope!

I grew up with a single mother who suffered from schizophrenia and substance abuse. It was tough, scary and painful and I hated feeling so powerless seeing her struggle. But I always knew she loved me and that gave me strength. We had some beautiful moments together that I will always remember and cherish. Seeing how happy your baby is warms my heart and waters my eyes. Your channel is important to so many people. Thank you for bringing us into your life!

There is something so pelasingly calm abou this, like given how like the usual stuff is like explaining the paranoia, the hospital admissions and all that which is all intense and pretty tricky sometimes to sit and watch, but this was just so serene, and I'm in love with the co-parent's "Yes Homo" t-shirt.

Teddy is sweet and adorable. Thank you for being candid about how Rob takes the "night shift" for much for the week. I've always struggled with anxiety/depression and I had severe postpartum depression so my husband also helped out a lot with the night feeds so I could get some sleep - sleep is so so so important especially for those living with any sort of mental illness. I had a lot of friends and family almost make me feel guilty that I was forcing my husband to do night feeds when he had to work. What they don't understand is A. I was not forcing him to do anything, he wanted to help me because he knows how important sleep is for my mental health and B. my husband would often tell me that it was easier for him to go to work sleep deprived than take care of a baby sleep deprived. I know this isn't the same for every working spouse/partner depending on what their occupation is, I just appreciated the acknowledgement of how hard it is to be a mom and that maternity leave is NOT a vacation. All that being said I think sleep deprivation has a lot to do with postpartum mood disorders and can hinder in recovery and moms should not feel like they have to do it all or suffer while neglecting their needs and mental health. With my mental health issues I could not have become a mom without a supportive partner and it looks like you have a wonderfully supportive partner as well. Also - I'm sure you get this all the time but Rob looks a lot like Adam Driver!

I've been on antipsychotic medications for the last two and a half years. So I relate very very well with this tiredness we get, with the struggle it is to socialize, with the exhausted feeling after any small effort made. It's hard. I started on a new job today after being outta work for the past year or so and I just feel like I don't have the strength on my body to cope with it now. We struggle, but we manage it.
  • @ImpTheVicious
rob seems like such a gentle, understanding and genuine man... i could only wish to have a father like him. wishing you lots of luck and love

Hi Lauren and Rob! I am an individual living with schizoaffective disorder as well! I would love to see a video about the importance of personal care routines and some of the daily struggles with personal care that people with schizophrenia go through. I personally struggle when I am feeling more symptomatic with keeping myself clean and eating well and stuff like that and would love to hear your guys' opinions on that. Thanks!
  • This is so important. Changes all perceptions. You have no idea what an impact this has!
  • @noski1240
I love seeing your more silly side in this video, laughs are so important for our mental health! <3
  • This is awesome. My mother’s side of the family has schizophrenia running through many generations. Love how you’re showing that life can still be productive and beautiful with mental illness 🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼
