I do prefer the simplicity of Apple Music, but the cross device support of Spotify is really what keeps me there. I can listen wherever on whatever device & don’t have to be logged into my Apple account.

I used Apple Music for 8 years and finally decided to switch to Spotify about 6 months ago and the main thing I notice is how many new songs I find. It felt so hard to find new music but Spotify just slips it in without me even realizing.
  • @kindofanmol
AppleMusic's UI is so gorgeous but Spotify has a much, MUCH better UX. Its so well laid-out compared to the clunky mess of AppleMusic.
  • @jdog2230
im not sure if i missed this but spotify also has this sick new thing that when you're hanging out with friends you can all connect to one person and add to their queue when they're playing off of a speaker which is way better than having to put songs on their phone

An underrated AM feature has to be the insightful descriptions that accompany many albums and playlists. They educate you and give you nice tidbits of information. I wish there were more of them
  • @smitmiras
As a musician and beatmaker, the sing along function is dope! I just wish they could make a function for pitching the songs, that would really make Apple Music my go to app.
  • @sacrifices9908
Used Spotify for as long as i can think. I switched to apple music cause they offered a 2 months free subscription and the first thing i noticed immediately was how much clearer and better apple music sounds compared to Spotify. I personally like the UI more (but im sure thats because i used spotify for too long that it got boring). So as someone who wants to hear every detail, every background vocal and every stem i am more than happy with apple music.

Great breakdown! Personally, I've found it's basically this: Do you like listening to songs and playlists? Spotify. Do you like listening to albums, making your own playlists, and curating your own library? Apple Music Do you like to discover music in a manner similar to listening to the radio, where you put something on and passively let the algorithm throws songs at you? Spotify (Apple Music Radio aside). Do you like to discover music in a manner similar to browsing though a music shop, forcing you to take a more active role in discovery? Apple Music I think both of these comparisons really strip it down to the essentials, because the rest of both of the services user experiences and interfaces are heavily influenced by these differences in philosophy. On the service's playlists... I think Spotify definitely has a big advantage on algorithmically generated playlists - especially mood/vibe-oriented ones. Apple Music's advantage is human-curated playlists. I find Spotify's "best of __ genre" playlists kind of horrible, frequently missing out on important artists, or just full-on miscategorizing, whereas Apple Music's obviously human-curated equivalents are significantly better.

Apple Music NEEDS to lean into their social aspect more. Being able to see when your followers add/ listen to your playlists and what other albums they listen to is such an amazing feature. They should really take advantage of this considering Spotify doesn't have this yet

I’ve been using Spotify since 2018 and upgraded to premium in 2020. I dabbled in Apple Music with the free trial I got from my iPhone. I like Spotify better because of the connectivity, UX, and the way the liked songs is sorted by date of liking, most recent up top. I started paying for the yearly this past July to save some $.
  • @jesse.virgil
I might have missed it, but one big advantage Apple Music has is the Apple One bundle. If you’re part of the Apple ecosystem and use multiple services, getting Apple Music at a discount is a clear winner IMO. I split the cost of the top-tier Apple One bundle and get all of Apple’s premium services for about the same price as Spotify’s monthly cost.

Switched to spotify a few years ago and the algorithm is no joke. So many different radios and playlists that introduced me to new genres and artist. Plus they have the spotify duo plan that’s only $14
  • @benedictwb
my favourite thing about spotify is the statistics that it provides about my listening history, which i love to look back on
  • @JasonNelson24
One feature you didn't touch on for Apple Music which I feel is comparable to the Spotify DJ is the Discovery Station. It picks music that isn't in your library based on what you have listened to and I am quite impressed with it.
  • @ByronWrightJr
I love Spotify but I do wish that they will get higher quality audio. It’s the only thing missing that I am wanting.
  • @garageofnonsense
I like the Shazam integration in Apple Music, Shazamming something and it adding to an Apple Music playlist for Shazam’s automatically is really nice.
  • @Jake_5693
I love Apple Music and I’ve used it for years, it’s getting better but god I really do miss all my personalised playlists etc with Spotify that I used to have. Hopefully they’ll work on it and improve but for me that’s really my biggest issue, apart from that I can’t think of anything else.
  • @cjc363636
Spotify was my music app for almost 2 years, but I went back to Apple Music for 2 reasons: 1) Spotify never (and has ye to) released a HD tier, and 2) - And this was the kicker to move back - They muddied up the Spotify app with the spoken word integration. I listened to a handful of podcasts on the app, but then it would never stop showing me podcasts it thought I might like. I didn't need it for podcasts. And I tried everything to make the interface music-focused. To no luck. So about 5 months ago, I transferred my library back to Apple. And truth is, I'm okay with that. Working great. And the iTunes integration is cool.
  • @delgonemma
Spotify can allow you to download all the music in your library with just one tap while with Apple Music I can only download music in my playlists but songs that I just added to the library I will have to download them one by one
