“It’s not about you” is so insulting. It IS about him. It’s his marriage.

adam scott is one of the most underrated actors of this generation.
  • And even after that, Ed didn't even slam the door. Such a gentleman.

Ed didn’t deserved this, he’s a great husband!

“To get my ears checked” is the reason my wife and I can’t watch her shows together. She is mortified watching the scene, and I can’t stop laughing at that line.

I think it's really significant when Ed said, "My daughter--and, yes, I do think of her as a daughter..." because this show has mostly focused on the relationships between biological parents and their children. In that respect, Ed's been excluded from much of the discussion. But stepfathers and stepmothers are just as much a part of the discussion at hand.

I had an eerily similar "Ed" experience and, trust me, this scene nails it. The half-hearted, no-tear apology... the "it's about me" excuses... Madeline wanting to know what Ed is thinking after years of keeping secrets... the sudden desire to seek counseling after the damage is done. Best of all... Ed's pain being driven by the loss of trust rather than the physical affair. Brilliant!
  • His acting was brilliant. He even creep me out a little bit standing in the doorway. But I always assumed he knew since the car accident. Madeline even told him once that she made a terrible mistake and he told her don't say it. All of this during the days they had conversations about their non existent sexual lives.

“Get my ears checked” is the best reply I’ve ever heard when you hear your partner talk about cheating and denies it

When Madeline said it wasn’t about him, it was about her she was right. Ed’s the picture perfect husband— he’s kind, he’s caring, he’s loving, everything. But Madeline has shown that she’s the one with the issues, and what sucks the most is Ed is there throughout all of them. She’s still in love with her ex husband, and kinda compares Ed to her ex. Even after it’s been 15 years. This affair with the director was just the cherry on top of the cake. Madeline is a good friend at times, yes. But she is a narcissistic, self absorbed, and selfish character. In terms of her family all she cares about is herself, and what she wants. From her daughter saying she wanted to basically do a non profitable charity that builds houses for the poor, and yelling at her for that. To taking her daughter to Disney on ice instead of a birthday party that her daughter said she wanted to go to. All over a vendetta against another mom. To cheating on her husband who adores, and loves her just like any woman would dream. To still loving her ex even though he still has a new wife, and daughter. All while comparing her new husband to her old ex. She’s honestly the worst character.

"It's about me." - You shouldn't have an opinion. "It's about us." - You should share in the blame/you should want to fix this. "Moment of weakness." - You should be strong and live with this. All of it was about trying to take power away from him while saddling with responsibility. This is some of the most realistic writing I've ever seen when it comes to a woman trying to manage the discovery of her infidelity. All the way up to the complete lack of actual tears until he firmly assigned accountability to her, where it belongs.

Ed was such a good husband. I feel bad for all the great husband and wives that get cheated on for no reason.

The way he starts to choke when he says "my daughter" referring to his step daughter is so beautiful and makes me sob
  • Adam Scott is so underrated as an actor! He is so versatile! I felt his pain in this scene!
