This song is criminally underrated. It should be a classic by now. It is for me, at least

It’s taken me 11 years to find this song. I remember watching it at my grandmas when I was little and apparently I never stopped banging on about “the man in the bouncy ball”. As I grew up I was desperate to find the song but I couldn’t remember any lyrics, only a man bouncing around in a ball and “green playing card symbols”. Then out of pure luck, 11 years later a random New Years Eve playlist happened to have the Brits Medley by the pet shop boys on it. I’ve never jumped out of a chair quicker! I must say it’s a relief for myself and my whole family because I’ve never given up on trying to find it! 2021 is off to a magnificent start for me! Excellent song.

There's something hypnotic about this song that makes me play it on loop, always...
  • Well, this song aged like a fine wine.. The more you listen, the more you fall in love with it

This may be the ultimate blend of PSB irony, sincerity, politics, romance, and just plain fun.  It's a privilege to be alive at the same time as these guys.

6 years later i still love this song XD update: 11 years later and yup, still slaps
  • Love etc. does not follow a conventional verse-chorus-verse-chorus format, hence why it sounds different. Neil Tennant added in more lyrics into it because he felt that whatever the producers (Xenomania) had written was not enough, so he extended the chorus (the "don't have to b..." part). Also, the "too much of anything..." part is like a bridge but is located almost in the middle of the song. And then the first verse is repeated again...and the weird thing is, you don't know where in the lyrics it's going to end. The "beautiful but it helps" repeat at the end is a complete surprise as an ending - it's all rather wonderful.
  • I swear God I was looking for this song few years since I was heard it when I was a child. I'm 22 now after a few years I thought it was a 90s-00s hit and searched the whole world with 0 results. Finally today was the big day! Can't believe this awesome music launched at 2009. Please make more music ! There were nights without sleeping searching for this gold!

Well, this is Pop Art! Acoustically and visually. And that's what makes Pet Shop Boys sooo unique....

Yo recién conocí ésta canción cuando los Pet shop boys dieron su primer concierto en Lima en el 2010. Me gustó de inmediato. En las radios nunca la pasan.
  • This song is so special for me. I listened this song in 2010 for the first time and i thought that i understood the meaning of the lyrics. But while the time passes and i become more mature i realised that song explains how the world works.

I really love this song. It's not actually my favourite song but it's definitely the most meaningful song in my life. It doesn't matter how much you get in terms of material stuff or empty achievements, in the end love is what really fills you.

these guys really are timeless... 1986 or 2021. can't tell the difference.
  • @cataiekhan
