In 2017, Sami Zayn turned his back on the fans after feeling left out, teaming with his longtime friend, Kevin Owens. Over the next 6 years, he did all kinds of despicable ideas just to get recognized. Eventually, he was accepted, not by the fans, but by a tyrannical empire led by a tyrannical tribe, who made him an honorary member of their family. Shortly thereafter, Kevin, who had a change of heart some time prior, took on the imperial tribe, and confronted Sami, not to fight him, but to convince him into making the right decision. Soon, Kevin became overwhelmed by the tyrannical tribe, who hung him up to torture him. Suddenly, Sami was swayed by Kevin’s words and defected back to the light side, refusing to participate in Kevin’s torture, but in return, the tribe tortured him and threw him out of the family, reducing him back to his previous status as a forgotten wrestler. Shortly thereafter, Sami came to realize that he never needed the tribe to help him be recognized and accepted. He already had a family in the fanbase, who had already recognized and accepted him from the very start. But he threw it all away for nothing. Now, he is out on a quest to redeem himself, and if he fails, he’ll perish with a smile, knowing that he at least tried his best.

One of the top 5 tag team matches of all time. The storytelling, the emotion, the near-falls, the outcome, everything was perfect.

Kinda crazy to think that 2 years in a row, a tag team match will be main eventing Night 1 of WrestleMania 😂

What makes this match so earnest is that Sami pinned jey. It would have been too easy to have Jimmy take the pin. What an emphatic finish to a great storyline. This feud is a brilliant example of a story that had a great setup/buildup and concluded with a emotionally satisfying finish. The payoff is fulfilling. They couldn’t have done it any other way and that third helluva kick is a glorified moment indeed.
