Therapist reacts to Sick Boi Ren

Published 2024-03-14
Therapist analyzes the lyrics of Sick Boi by Ren to talk about the importance of differentiating between if someone is sick or hurt. Often times when people seek help from professionals they are treated like a problem that needs to be fixed and this only deepens the wounding they feel. Instead, they deserve to be treated like a person who deserves compassion.

Has anyone explained Ren's medical history to you? Long story short, he went in with a list of symptoms, and they misdiagnosed him with depression, bipolar, and chronic fatigue syndrome. It wasn't until years later, after him not giving up and spending a lot of money on specialists that they discovered he actually has Lyme disease.

You should check out ‘chalk outlines’ by Ren with Chinchilla. Make sure you do the live one. If fits with the mental health theme

This is what happens when you can't afford therapy, you get a over worked nurse going though a checklist. There is no help less you can afford private help. This is why we have music, least we know we're not alone.

Your reaction made me cry. Therapists who are trauma informed are so very rare. I had one "therapist" a few years back who actually looked at my chart and said, "So you've been through therapy off and on for years; so what is it you expect from me?" I just quietly got up and left the session. Ren is such a beacon of light and talent speaking and singing the words that are inside so many of us. I'm glad you found him and thank you for your compassionate reaction.

Your contribution to the RENiverse is very much appreciated. Thank you

Seriously... in all my 56 years ive Never come across such an artist! He Truly has more layers than an onion, more Bars than a prison!!! As a therapist... you feel into the Mount Rushmore of rabbit holes!!! Trust us... You Cannot find a Bad song feom Ren, and Almost all of them are deep enough for your reaction!!!

Given your reaction to this, Seven Sins (the opening track on Ren's Sick Boi album) would probably be a good song for you to check out. It delves into the abyss of pain. It's both breathtaking and heartbreaking.
  • @tribute1965
Ren has dozens of songs equally as powerful as this dealing with his physical and mental struggles that started when he was 19. His Lyme disease wasn't properly diagnosed until he was 25. His story is one of triumph over terrible circumstances. More Ren please. You will not regret it.
  • @Oleandra-13
Calling someone 'hurt' switches them from a checklist to be finished to a patient that needs healing. It's a very important distinction.

Ren is doing so much to bring awareness to mental health. Hes been though the fire and by telling his story he is giving a voice to the voiceless. Mental health has really only been taken seriously in the last say decade or so. And sadly so much of it is this assembly line treatment. thank you Ren for being our Bard

This is my favorite reaction. I love trauma-informed therapists. Thank you.
  • As someone who has struggled with chronic depression for 50 years I feel compelled to acknowledge you for your approach... Sending you Love and Light on your journey... Thank you!

He was misdiagnosed for a decade. Early in the song he says "bitten by a tick". He got Lyme Disease and was misdiagnosed with mental health disorders. Some of his early Vlogs when he was really sick are heartbreaking.

"Ren X Chinchilla - Chalk Outlines (live)" should be your next reaction for Ren. Also ... "Ren Ft. Bibi - Crutch" shows the pain and torture on Ren's physical body when he was at his worst with his Lyme Disease misdiagnosis. Crutch was before he had been diagnosed.
  • @sharis9095
After almost of a decade of being told it was "all in his head" Ren literally had to raise money and go to another country to find a specialist to get a proper diagnosis. He has a very conflicted view of the medical profession. Years of errors, but then treatment and help. He will always give credit to those that helped... but he'll never forget those who dismissed him. I often wonder if those who "treated" him know of him now... if they know they failed him. Chalk Outlines next please.
  • You seem like you're a wonderful therapist who genuinely cares and listens to people. So, thanks for being that! I had my autoimmune disease misdiagnosed as bipolar and psychosomatic disorder for 15 years, so my story is very similar to Ren's. It's extremely difficult to experience, and I'm glad there are mental health professionals out there trying their best to just be decent, empathetic human beings for those of us who are struggling. <3

Ren is (in my opinion) the perfect example of how music can connect and heal...the way he explains our insides with words is something few are gifted with...I am thankful for every new person who discovers this same fact, and so glad you are heading steadily down the rabbit hole, as it were. Lots of love from KC 💜
  • You can see now why Ren has moved so many of us. He’s uncovering the reality that so many of us live every day. 💔 You seem to be an amazing individual. Full of compassion . Thank you for your reaction and speaking to the message of this song. 🙌💛🇨🇦😔
