Sweet Baby EXTORTING Black Myth Wukong? - I Dont Think So

Black Myth: Wukong (an upcoming Action RPG game from Game Science) has become the subject of controversy after a Weibo influencer posted a claim about Sweet Baby Incorporated... leading to an amplification on twitter, and now an army of claims about 7 million dollars of extortion, media hit-pieces and IGN bias.

Today I wanted to give my take on what seems to be a clearly fake story, built on a game of telephone where claims take on a life of their own without a shred of actual evidence.

The problem starts on the part where Kim Belair herself admitted that Sweet Baby works based on blackmail and extortion. She herself made the story perfectly believable.
  • I mean, I don't really care who the source of that claim is... because I had already seen the clip with them saying "yeah, terrify them with the possibility of what's gonna happen if they don't give you what you want". That's a threat in my book. That's already extortion.
  • @nyanchat2657
"if they say no... terrify them" Hmm... I wonder if there's a word for that...
  • @nikroth
Sweet Baby Inc clones have infected IGN.
  • @lingyt1001
Well, as a Chinese descent that can read Chinese myself, I can confirm that whatever accusations that IGN made against black myth wukong's dev for being sexist were slender as almost every translation were inaccurate. And if you ask who to believe, I won't fully trust either sides but definitely won't trust IGN for being dishonest in their writing.

What about the blatant mistranslation thing, was that bots? Cuz that's in the libel neighborhood.

When it comes to Sweet baby Inc, here's the thing we already have laws on the books where they should absolutely be able to be prosecuted for the behaviors that they do. Trying to extort companies and violating civil rights laws. We have to get back to the point where our laws are actually enforced and where these companies cannot continue to have this behavior or they get fined into Oblivion to the point where they can't exist. Because the reality is they should not exist.

that is the true meaning of "question everything". It has to include even things you'd like to be true

All consultant companies are worthless.Let artists make games and let their art either live or die on its own. Plus if any consultant firm is coming out of Canada?I've just assumed it's dog shit

8:17 I’m sorry, UE, but I just do not buy that IGN “just so happened” to write a hitpiece on GameScience at the same time GameScience told them to go away. Why would IGN even be looking at GS’s hiring page randomly anyway? The “source” is sketchy, sure. But the timing AND Kim Belair admitting that coercion is how they do business isn’t something you can ignore. Nor do I think it’s a “coincidence”. Edit: Alright, the “Chinese media” and wishlist things were dishonest. The rest of this though? We still have no proof this didn’t happen
  • It's all too believable that they would do something like this. No wonder the narrative took off
  • However the situation may be, Black Myth: Wukong is DEI-free and that's the ultimate good news here. The rest can get fcked.

Personally, i consider the fundamental premise of the Sensitivity Reader industry - basically SBI's entire business model, as far as im aware - to be implicitly extortionate. As such, the phrases "SBI offered to consult" and "SBI attempted to extort" read about the same to me. So in this case its less a matter of 'Does SBI Extort Companies', but 'Did SBI Actually Extort THIS Company'
  • @snakecode2492
I think the issue is, like you said, SBI make this easy to believe so it's understandable that people would just assume it to be true. SBI do engage in extortion. The slew of hit pieces on Game Science coming from journos is the cherry on the cake. What you end up with is people engaging in basic pattern recognition but not doing the necessary research, and therefore not having the correct information, and coming to the wrong conclusion.
  • @ameri7260
like u said, people want to believe, ppl want SPI to be terminated so any win even if it's not confirmed to be real is a win for the people, and I am one of those people I want this to be real cuz SBI should cease to exist today before tomorrow
  • @jayyrod1
Be sure to add 'sbi detected' to your steam curator list everyone.
  • @tomaszt5050
"Responsibility and truth are consistent principles regardless of who the subject is" Very well put and I wish more people would remember that that's the case.
  • On one hand, SBI does make this stuff easy to believe. On the other hand, truth is paramount - there's no substitute for honesty. Just because SBI has done this kind of shit to other developers and is a blight on the industry in general, doesn't mean they're necessarily guilty of it here. Glad to see someone's working back through the chaff to question the veracity of this. Nobody should be slandered or punished for something they didn't do.
  • @shangj1026
I don't really care if they did or not. What I can say is I don't like SBI.
