Hurricane Beryl made landfall on Mexico’s coast, near the resort of Tulum, as a Category 2 storm after leaving a trail of destruction through the Caribbean.

The U.S. National Hurricane Centre says Beryl is expected to rapidly weaken to a tropical storm as it crosses over the Yucatan Peninsula before re-emerging in the Gulf of Mexico and likely regaining hurricane strength.

Beryl caused widespread damage to several Caribbean islands, including extreme damage to the islands of Carriacou and Petite Martinique where 70 and 97 per cent of buildings were damaged, respectively.

“The severity of damages in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl are tangible and devastating," said Rhea Pierre, the IFRC’s disaster manager for the English and Dutch-speaking Caribbean. She added that Caribbean countries are bearing the brunt of the damage from devasting storms such as Beryl.

  • Don’t they know that taxes control the weather there like it does in Canada? Just pay your government more taxes and everything will be fine.

I just spoke to a friend in Tulum. She said it was scary, and she sent me pictures of trees uprooted, branches all over the road, etc, but she said within a day it was all cleaned up and all power was restored. She said the emergency response was amazing.
  • Praying for MEXICO 🇲🇽 and the Caribbean Islands. Stay Safe and please evacuate if you’re warned to. 🙆🏻‍♀️🙏🏽❤️‍🩹 To the toxic comments. Just remember WE ALL REAP WHAT WE SOW.
  • Typical MSM fear mongering. We had El Niño here and when it left it was almost immediately replaced by La Niña. This is the reason why the water temps are unusually high. Thanks for reminding me why I gave up on the MSM years ago. Keep up the crappy work!
  • This is a direct result of not paying enough carbon tax. If we all paid more carbon tax, Trudeau could stop the weather for us.
