Had a rescue cat that I raised from the time she was about 4 weeks old. Never knew for certain what breeds were in her DNA, but she seemed to have major Maine Coon heritage. She was a cuddle bug who loved to lay in my lap or be carried draped over my shoulder while crossing her front paws, she was super talkative (mostly around meal times 😆), and for the first few years of her life she loved riding in cars. She gave me 14 years of love and laughter and I miss her every single day.
  • My boy was a beast for a Maine Coon. He reached 32 lbs. He was the sweetest and most gentle fur baby. He was very protective of me, even when my sugar levels were low. I will never be able to express in words, how much of an impact Sebastian left in me. It's been 2 years already. I don't know if I'm ready for another MC yet... He simply left a dent in my heart.

I had 2 Maine Coon sisters who lived 18 and 20 years old. They loved riding in the car, walking on the beach in leashes and weighed almost 20 pounds. Beautiful cats!.

I describe my Maine Coon, Floof, as the dog I always wanted. She follows me around, loves water (even muddy puddles unfortunately 🙄) loves cuddles, goes on walks and is so intelligent! I absolutely love her so much 😊❤

I got Morgan the year they closed the register. Since she had all the characteristics of the standard, i could have submitted her to be included but had no interest in breeding. She was an Iowa farm cat and the most beautiful cat i ever saw, nothing exaggerated. She was the smartest, most dignified, most deeply loyal, most talkative, most interesting kitty. she was telepathic. She could count. I proved ALL of this during her life of over 20 years. I have had 14 kitties and i have loved them all incredibly, but none like her. When she crossed the bridge i commissioned her portrait and it stands guard over my family room to this day. She changed my life.❤

I have 2 Maine Coons. They tolerate young children picking at them very well. They are a unique breed in their manner and size. They don't like being held much. But both will sleep on me while I'm sleeping. They will lay beside you to be petted and they prefer being in the same room.

It's weird how much like dogs they are. Plays fetch (but only with spring toys), runs up to strangers for pets, sleeps at night and rarely naps during the day. If she didn't use a litter box I wouldn't even count her as a cat.

We were fortunate to find a MC at the local SPCA. He had been returned twice and was a bit of a basket case but he has blossomed into a happy handsome boy. We live in an old house and have always had a mouse problem. He has taken care of that gladly and hunts the basement and backyard whenever given the chance. Oddly he stays in the back yard and never strays. He is black and 16lbs and truly a joy for us. He is a mamas boy and will come and get her if he is feeling ignored. Yeah, a true puppy cat. And such a sweet animal. Love that tail and its always straight up. The girls at the SPCA thought he was unadoptable because he was black and VERY shy. I sat with him with my hand in the cage until he came out and sniffed it. The girls were so surprised. He had never done that. Needless to say he is a happy boy and has a huge territory. Such a sweetie and a real gentleman. N EVER demands, only asks and the trills are absolutely delightful.

“Doglike intelligence” cats are way smarter than dogs.

My boy, a mixed MCC and others, dominate MCC. He follows me a lot, but onhis time. Has close to a prehensile tail. Wrapping my hand arm, shivering first thing in a.m. He talks to me, demands my attentionon his timeline. He's awesome. His fur...on the otherhand a major life impacitng fact of life. Thanks for confirming many things my 20lb buddy.

Aside from all the character traits of Maine Coons mentioned in this video, most of which are true, it should also be mentioned that they are incredibly good looking cats with the most expressive faces imaginable. They look fierce but they are more gentle, trusting and laidback than any other breed of cat I have encountered. Beware. Once you've had one you will never again be able to live without one.

My (now deceased) Maine Coon mix female Bobbie was the sweetest cat I've had and absolutely loved everyone. I was her 3rd owner (due to moving) and she helped my Chartreux mix female Dusty learn to get along with other cats.

You’ve reinforced my desire to acquire a Maine Coon. Maybe one will find their way to me eventually.

I had an orange Maine coon and he was the most beautiful and loving cat.
  • My 2nd cat had an attitude liked a Maine Coon cat. He was a 20 pounds American shorthair red tabby cat. I remembered my cat did cross his paws. I did played fetch with him a little bit. I tossed a rabbit’s paw key chain in the bathtub. He was my cat for the longest time. One strange thing that he did was flossing his gums on a magazine or a comic book. He was a dog liked in many ways.

Our Maine Coon liked Dairy Queen. Couldn't say it out loud or he'd be at the door waiting in an instant. Go to the drive thru and they'd say That's a cat! I thought you had a kid in the back seat.😊
  • My Gregory was about 25lbs. The crazy thing used to love licking plastic grocery bags. Used to wake me up in the middle of the night. He and my pit bull also used to groom each other!
  • Very correct with many of these traits my oldest buddy Ceasar it is debated if he was a Maincoon or Norwegian Forest cat but he was a big guy for sure loved to play with everyone even the family dog Riley, always wanted to be by my side as I was his best buddy. Ceasar definitely liked to have adventures even towards the end of his life he still wanted to hop a neighbor's fence and explore the backyard and sneak into the garage and explore the boxes, tools, and all the nooks and crannies. While I never had kids Ceasar had two little brother Siberian brother that he loved. And yes the lovr water of water is correct as he loved to play in water and would always hop into the tub abd a shower or bath and lick up the remaining water. While Ceasar and Riley are no longer with us they were most definitely the best companions and buddies anyone could have.
