I, for one, thought they were fun new discoverable items. I don't think everything needs to "add" so much to a game that it upsets balance or becomes a new big money maker. I feel like it should be said that carrots and broccoli used to be added in in the old PPJA crops mods, and carrots grew in three days there, too. For free items, I think they're a good time investment.

People saying things like carrots are useless when they give THREE TIMES as much energy as salmonberries do and they only take 3 days to grow. Thats a game changer for early game. Now i wont have to worry about energy early game anymore

I just loved that we had new crops. Also, the carrot making the horse happy is awesome. Apples should too.

I think it's worth saying that the governor likes summer squash. It's a good option for the luau!
  • Carrots are just so broken for energy early game, which has always been my biggest struggle. Before that first (or even second) star drop it feels like I’m always running out of energy because I don’t have money for salads or cows for cheese yet. Carrots with their quick grow time fixed this for me!
  • It actually threw me for a loop that we didn't have carrots in Stardew Valley before this update! My favorite veggie lacking in one of my favorite (farming) games! How did I not realize we didn't have carrots until now xD I'm happy we have carrots in SV now, even if they may or may not be that good.

Admittedly, whether or not theyre generally good, they were a lifesaver during my "no buying seeds from pierre" run. (Seeds only because I want backpacks, bouquets, and ai refuse to play traveling merchant roulette for that long for saplings)

On one hand I'm relieved we don't need to cook more recipes for perfection, but..... on the other hand it's kinda sad these plants aren't used in any dishes. Like c'mon it's the carrot and broccoli!😢

There's a really good mod for the new crops called Hidden Crop Recipes (found on Nexusmods) that adds cooking recipes for all the new crops. The new crops are great, but having them involved in cooking makes them feel more integrated into the game for me. Also if you're speedy with unlocking the greenhouse, Getting Racoon shop open before winter is very possible, and Powdermelon seeds for pinecones is probably one of the best shop deals in the game.

The carrots are great when you're just starting a new game -- they give a lot of energy before you start building up your stats

Carrots are meta, change my mind
  • People hate the new crops? I LOVE them. One, they give you a reason to look for artifact spots after you get all the books and artifacts. Two, I don''t mind that they may not sell the absolute best without optimization because, again, I see it as free food for the mines. Three, I like the variety. I go out of my way to hunt down these crops, especially the carrots. Super smart to have such a quick crop in spring since you're scrambling for an easy and cheap source of food, especially if you're new to the game.

Also, 6:04 CORRECTION Despite not being mentioned ANYWHERE for some reason... in 1.6 Edible forage can be used in Preserve Jars and Kegs. So you CAN pickle/juice the Snow Yams/Roots now. (crystal fruit always could be Jammed/Wined) You can even Pickle Edible Mushrooms as well. Purple Mushrooms and Chanterelle go pretty hard in Jars.
  • "Useless" crops is such a terrible take in general. Why is Stardew Valley, a relaxing farm sim, min maxed so hard in the first place? Grow whatever, man. Stop worrying so much about profits and just build a cozy farm.
  • @SkyeRwby
I was shocked when I first found out how much carrots healed. It makes the Field snack almost completely useless.
  • @aruaruru624
im fine with them not being huge money makers. it was just a nice surprise and i love the giant crops so a new one is neat! one from every season, very satisfying. the way the brocoli looks is so funny i just love it. i personally enjoy the new crops and always plant them. it also helps out early on bc you're so strapped for cash that its just a lil extra income - free money!
  • @MothsMusicBox
I honestly think of all the new crops powder melon is the best because tis easy to find yourself bored in winter so they give you something to farm
  • @Mems47455
You make 22,798,440 gold per year planting carrots playing on the standard farm planting on it and ginger island every day and turning them into pickles.
  • @FacePomagranate
It's also really easy to harvest pine cones so you can get more powdermelon seeds from the raccoons, so there's another advantage over winter forage seeds.
