It’s easy to forget how much merch Poliwhirl had in Gen 1, but they really tried to make it one of the iconic original Pokémon.
  • @IAmMissingnoMaster
Poliwhirl was Satoshi Tajiri's favorite Pokémon, hence the favoritism it got back then. I kinda miss the days of Poliwhirl popularity, if I'm being honest.

The figures that came out during gen 1 pokemon were the best. Like the ones that came with the Gameboy ball thing were genuinely quality imo

I find it funny how John genuinely likes almost every thing he was sent, almost like a kid on Christmas Day
  • @RheaZenko
Fun Fact: I heard that before Pikachu was cemented as the top mascot, the company tried a bunch of different pokemon to see which one would stick and Poliwhirl was one of them.

I'm going to guess the reason why there was so much Poliwag and Poliwhirl merch was because Poliwag was the favorite pokemon of the creator. Also it was a very important pokemon in the 1st gen manga, being Red's first pokemon there.

Poliwhirl was the creator’s favorite Pokémon. That’s why it was pushed so hard. The Welch’s jar was a series of jelly jars that they had Pokémon art on for a bit.

Mikey: Shows off the fact that he owns Pokémon Box: Ruby & Sapphire Meanwhile, John:

I love John's pure childlike, joy with the pokemon beyblades. The pure joy in his voice is just incredible.
  • @pikasheep
This was the funniest PM7 video I've ever watched lmao. I couldn't stop laughing. This was edited so well. It might be my fav video from him so far
  • @NeoArashi
9:13 I also remember Poliwhirl being one of the most commonly featured Pokemon in merch in the gen 1 days.
  • @tankizard
16:30 The look of pure, unadulterated joy and child-like innocence that came across this man's face is NOT to be denied
  • @KitsuneRokaku
At least you're knowingly doing this, unlike Purplecliffe who constantly having his credit card stolen by his editors
  • @person4562
bro, the door knock was so realistic for me

I'd be careful with the pokeball that came with the Poliwhirl Keychain if I were you, John. I had 3 from the gen 4 era as a kid and the spring that allows the Pokeballs to open broke after a while. Maybe your pokeball has a stronger spring since it's from the 90s and it's been sealed for years. But I'd still be careful.
  • 10:04 I actually still have this exact Poliwhirl card, which I found in a Value Village. It didn't come with the pokeball case or the Certificate since it was bundled in a bag full of random stuff, but I still cherish it in one of my TCG deck boxes alongside my favorite decks I've assembled.

OMG that Poliwhirl plush at 11:40 brought back early childhood memories! My brother had that one, and we both had Meowth! I put a hair tie on my Meowth's tail so we knew which one was which. This brought me so much joy seeing you open it, and I hope it brings you some joy as well John!
