How I Draw: Facial Expressions

Ironically, I was in an awful art slump while I was working on this video (How fitting that it was during a tutorial video HAHA) so this was supposed to be finished weeks ago, but I was struggling like crazy to be happy with anything I drew. I'm feeling much better now luckily ^^ It happens to all of us, and while I still need to teach myself not to feel guilty when I have a few days off to recollect myself, I'm very grateful that my audience is always reminding me that it's okay to take a little longer if I need to T___T Thank you!!

Ah yes, the 3 phases or Anger: "Angry" "Angrier" "PISSED"

Me: trying to think of a tip about expressions to comment Also me: remembers I only draw the same three expressions

I swear the stoic characters and their emotions just hit me HARD like Giyu Tomioka, in the manga when he smiles it is so rare so when you see him smile it just goes BAM right through the heart!

And that is how you spend 9 minutes educating people about expressions in much greater, more USEFUL detail than any how-to-draw I have ever encountered in my life. You deserve a trophy.

There are two types of "I can't draw" people: 1. People like Emirichu 2. People who literally can't even draw a square.

I usually unconsciously make the same expression that I'm drawing sometimes I force myself to cry when I wanna make a crying expression Extra but its fun :3

When the combination cry face shows, it hits real hard. The power of combining Shounen and Shoujo manga crying face is too powerful. Also, I actually learn a lot, especially about how artists depict character's personality through different expression for the same emotion/state of mind.

Me, who can't even draw a straight line properly: "Hmm, yes, the eyebrows."

I can’t be the only artist who makes the facial expression they are drawing unconsciously

the way you draw emotions has always been something i admire about your style, you have a real skill for conveying emotions simply with the face of a cartoon, i'm not very good at that myself, so it's nice to get tips from someone who's so good at it!
