Hi, thanks for the video. I have a Honda 520 with a fuel pump. When I bought the mower 4 years ago, no maintenance was done since out of seller... I changed oil and filter, refill and charge battery and change spark plugs. No problem so far but every year, when I'm mowing for arround 1 hour, the fuel filter is empty, like there is a problem with pumping fuel. I tried to clamp the different hoses but engine seems it doesn't care... I will try to test my pump like you show. Mower starting good but when mowing for long time, the engine struggleing like there isn't any fuel left...

I had a fuel pump completely stop pumping on my mower. I blew some air threw the air line with an air compressor and it worked good as new after… 👍👍

Year's ago i bought rebuild kits for these pumps...usually it was the rubber diphram. The bodys were metal..
  • Great video, anybody wanting to know numbers those little fuel pumps flow about 0.8 ounces of fuel every 5 seconds

A very common, but not well known at all, reason for bad flow from the vacuum fuel pump to the carb is air in the gas line somewhere between the gas tank and the fuel filter. The line isn't "plugged" with dirt or debris. The air simply prevents the relatively weak vacuum pump (even when new) from being able to suck a sufficient quantity of fuel through the system per minute. Most often what happens is that the user runs out of gas, or gets to the point where then engine is sputtering from being starved. Gas is put in the tank, it starts, but air may be hiding somewhere in that long line on a zero turn. After 10 to 30 minutes it cuts out. Solution is simple but not OSHA approved. Blow into the gas tank while your face makes a tight seal so pressure builds up. This will clear out the line. (By the way to test a fuel pump just blow into its plastic tube that is ordinarily connected to the valve cover. If it totally resists you blowing into it, it's likely still good. This video explaining this which I found today was a revelation. Won't be buying an annual fuel pump. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQf1BDmyUCw
  • The small vacuum line on the bottom of the fuel pump if that has holes in it would that keep the mower from running? I checked the fuel line and the filter and the vacuum line from the tank to motor all were good I was starting to pull the carburetor off my JD 535R when I removed the fuel pump I noticed that the small vacuum line on the bottom of the pump had small tears . The mower will start if I hold the choke all the way as soon as I let off the choke the mower dies out just checking before I pull off the carburetor.

What does it mean if my first fuel filter (before fuel pump) is empty to very little fuel (with no to lil flow filling it) yet my second inline fuel filter is full? I did pull the hose off as you showed in the video & I do have flow, nothing super flow type but still flowing? Bobcat 2100
  • Great video! I have a related/unrelated issue. Kohler KT740 (Cub Cadet). Cranks but won't start. New fuel filter, fuel pump, carb and plugs. Still nothing. Fuel is getting to the carb. Cranks and cranks. Pulled plugs to check if any fuel was getting there- no discernible fuel at all (on new plugs). It's a new carb. I'm baffled.

Another way you can diagnose the fuel pump is to drain your fuel filter, and watch how quickly it fills back up with gas after starting the mower. It helps when the fuel filter is clear when you're doing this.

Do you repair mowers. have a Koehler Twin on a 26 hp has trouble getting fuel sometimes. heard the has a horrid carb design because of ethanol. solenoid sticks and needs a light hammer to break it loose. is there a go around.

I have a question for you . I took a intek 20 hp v twin engine off a john deere rider and put it on a newer craftsman rider. The Deere was a lower setting fuel tank . The craftsman is a gravity feed system . Which way should I run it now ? Gravity or with fuel pump ? It's a twin with a nikki carb ,just like a single cylinder carb but with the twin manifold.
  • I have the gravely 44 HD And replaced starter solenoid… mine will only run if I keep the key turned…

Good video’s. I have. Gravely pro 160. Idling kind of rough. I want to clean the pilot jet first before doing anything else. Do you have a video on that?
