Under The Mayo is someone who likes to claim to be an expert on game design yet his Ultrakill review proves the exact opposite. This video is a response to that review. And before anyone asks, yes, I did yoink this video idea from ‪@Netherless_YT‬ because I'm evil ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Be sure to check him out as his video on the topic is very good.

    Just wanted to clarify that the Elden Ring livestream donation goal was NOT presented as a charity. That is my bad for parroting that without doing the proper research so I'll take the L on that. Other than that, the rest of the points in this video I would still consider valid so hope you enjoy the video regardless.

    3:13 Fun Fact! when Hakita (the developer of ultrakill) was asked in a livestream why Ultrakill didn't include ammo, he said: "well, it's like if Dante's sword in DMC had a durability meter. you wouldn't think about how to kill enemies with style, you would just think about how to kill them efficently."

  • "He's purposefully making his experience as miserable as possible" is honestly the best way to describe him and his channel, as this isn't the first time he's done it. He did it again on DMC5, where he played through the entire game on two different difficulties while spamming the same attacks, because the game didn't "force him to change his strategy". If you want to limit yourself, play a game in a way that isn't intended and then complain that you didn't enjoy it, the problem is you, not the game.

    He literally destroys his own argument without knowing. He said “the game should pose a challenge to force me to change strategy”, and then not long after says “I got my ass beat by V2”.
  • In my opinion, the best way to describe why Ultrakill couldn't ever be good in Mayo's eyes, is this: The game's at it's most fun when you're creative enough to string everything together in cool ways. The problem with that is because it's not FORCING you to be super creative, he hates it, because uh... he ISN'T creative He basically hates having to use his own brain to figure things out, and likes to be forced to play a specific way. That's also pretty much why he hates DMC, Bayonetta, etc etc..because those games expect you to figure it out. They don't exactly hold your hand. As much as I loved Eternal, it's pretty hand-holdy. Edit: Again this is at least how I see it.

  • V2 is made to hint that something is wrong with your skill, you can't be mad at a boss that is basically your copy and can do everything you do but better. Calling such bosses bad is basically the same as accepting skill issues.

    Mayo sounds like the kinda guy to see his car has 6 gears and only use the first because, "it gets me around, I don't need other gears to get around,"

    I think some slight simple ways to fix ultrakill is to remove the style meter, add ammo, add glory kills, platforming, a hub area, upgrades, improved graphics (simaler to doom eternal), a redesign of the enemies to look more simaler to doom eternal, more realistic graphics, removal of all maps in order to replace with doom eternal levels. and the smallest little nitpick is the deletion of ultrakill in order to replace it with doom eternal since both games are exactly the same with nothing different except one is worse -under the mayo (probably)
