On the day of my introduction to prog in '73, a day that literally changed my life, a Boy Scout buddy of mine played Time And a Word, Close to the Edge and Genesis' Foxtrot. They BLEW MY MIND. Previously, I was heavily into softer rock and Motown, I had never heard music like this, wonderful, complex and seemingly rooted in Classical. Being a budding drummer and songwriter at the time, the mathematics of the different time signatures intrigued me. My two favorite drummers, who were initially Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich, became Bill Bruford and Phil Collins. Listening to them play was mesmerizing and definitely affected my style of play, along with my songwriting. I will never forget that day ! Prog Rules !

Ladies and gentlemen Chris Squire and Yes the greatest show on earth

As a teenager who was totally into the Beatles I’ll never forget my first experience with Yes in my bedroom listening to Close to the Edge, mind blowing ! Truly expanded my musical horizons !
-
Is this my all-time favorite band? YES!!!!
-
I played with Patrick Moraz in "Moraz & Ciago", ,Tony Kaye & Billy Sherwood in "Circa", and Jon Davidson in a Yes Tribute Band before he joined Yes.

Fragile is one of THE most amazing albums of all time for listening when tripping on sunshine. Speaking from glorious experience.

About as good and concise a history of Yes as I've ever heard, with some bonus rare early interview material. Nice job, Denny.
-
I saw them twice in the ‘70’s. Awesome live.
-
RIP Chris Squire.
-
Yes was just one of many bands that had their greatest commercial success long after their best creative years.
-
Awesome summary! I'm looking forward to the next part. I would love to see something similar about Rush!
-
Great video, pics and interviews, Denny! Thanks for your hard work, sir!

Well done!! I really enjoyed this. Some unique interviews that I hadn’t heard before. Much appreciated!!

Now 36 years clean and sober, I still remember, as a teen, alone with the FM radio, soring with their 🎶 🎵. What Warren Zivon title do I think of when I recall those times? Muhammad's Radio!

The 1980 Yes Drama album kicks ass!!!!

Simply thank loved yes from start

I'm surprised to hear Yes played Asbury Park in November 1971. I saw them open for ELP which must have been late 1972 then. I recall Ed Sciaky was a major supporter of Yes on Philly radio, as he was of a number of other artists, including Bowie, Springsteen, and Billy Joel.

The band at 5.05 is not Yes. It looks like Peter Banks band Flash, but it's not Yes.
-
Maybe I misheard this, but I think the second soundbite is an anecdote from Pater Banks saying that Chris said the band was called Yes; yet, according to Anderson, it was Banks that coined the name in the first place.
