The point that most people don’t think about is the 4.30 will reduce the torque load on the transmission which will make it last much longer. True your mileage will be lower. I have a 4.30 gas and I get 13 mpg average. 17 mpg running empty on the highway at 75 mph and 10 mpg pulling a 6x12 ft box trailer.

I went from a 2008 Chevy Duramax to a 2022 Ford F350 7.3 with a 3.73 rear gears, and could not be more pleased. Originally I was looking at a F250, but in 2022 they only offered either a 4.30 or 3.55 rear end, but a F350 came standard with a 3.73. I use my truck to commute to work and pull a ~11K fifth wheel, it works great. The gas option also gives me almost twice the payload.

Great video. I loved my 21 F250 7.3. It was a great motor and loved the sound and performance.
  • Nice video! We have had good and bad experiences so far with our 7.3 and 10 speed overall. We've talked a out it on our channel. There are some things we love about the truck - and the 7.3 is pretty amazing.

I've been stressing that I messed up not going with the 4.30 gears. I'll be towing 12-13K lbs max like 8-10 times per year and thought they would be overkill. My truck has 20 inch wheels and 34 inch tires. I might go to 35 inch tires. You're the first person I've seen on YouTube that actually chnaged their order from the 4.30s to 3.73s and it's a relief to hear you talk about how it's fine. Great video.

Thanks for the video! Currently enjoying my ‘22 F350 7.3 with the 3.73 gears and the big fuel tank. I agree with you on the emissions on diesels and it’s the reason I went with gas. All of my trips are local with the occasional highway trip. Typically maxed out on towing weight or just over with an equipment trailer and compared to a diesel it doesn’t set the world on fire but it’s more than adequate. Only issue I’ve had was a bad set of cats that were replaced under warranty and turnaround was quick. Still can’t get away from those damn emissions…
  • I'm from Northern Michigan I have a F350 4wd crew lariat ultimate sport with FX4 I'm running the 6.7 powerstroke I love it . Nothing to due with the trucks I have a 2016 Corvette Z06 with a manual transmission if I run on the expressway in 7th gear it's reving around 1300 rpms and gets in the high 20s in mileage running 75 miles a hour

Good honest review, I went from 2017 F150 3.5 to 2022 F250 7.3 with 4.30 and get the same fuel economy towing the same load as the F150. At 74 mph it's turning 2200 rpm in 10th gear. Had 3.73 been available i would have been gotten it but im still pleased with the 4.30s. I think you are right that the biggest advantage with the 4.30s is starting off.

Your experience is right in line with mine. My F250 was ordered by me, Feb of 22 recieved in April of 22. Sitting at 26000 roughly with a lifetime computer average on trip 2 of 11.6 mpg, trip 2 has not been reset since i recieved the truck with 3 miles on it so this is combined towing and highway milage. 7.3 with 4.30 gears 275 75 R20 (stock 34" michelin) I get 14-14.5 mpgs empty running 75-80 here in New Mexico, drop to 65-70 and it will get 14.5-15. Rpms with current tires 75mph is 2100 rpm . We pull a 34ft 5th at 10300 and add a Polaris Rzr on a single axle trailer about 1/2 the time we tow. I tow with all 10 gears available but remove 8-10 manually when approaching a big grade, 7th gear will pull most hills 6th with 4.30 gears is the sweet spot for most big grades. 6th puts me at 4000Rpms , peak torque is 4500. 65-70 towing yeilds 8 -9 mpg depending on wind and mountains. Worst was 6.5 into a 30mph head wind and gusts holding 70mph, this was a double tow with the sxs behind the 5th wheel.

Good information. I have a 1997 F350 long box with the 7.3 Diesel engine. I run the truck mostly towing 5,500lbs with a small cargo trailer. About 6 times a year I tow a 12,000 lb 5th wheel Dunesport which is built to haul my 2004 Jeep wrangler. When the Jeep is in that toyhauler, my towing weight jumps up to the 17k range. So 12-17k. I’m on the highways pulling some good hills in the Cascades. I figured if a modified 1997 7.3 diesel with 4.10is good enough then a 7.3 gas with 4.30s and a way better transmission has got to be as good or better doing the same things. Rumor is there’s a High Output version of the gas 7.3L coming.

I agree, I went with a 2023 F250 with 6.8L and 3.73 gears. I tow a 7600 LB RV trailer and a small utility trailer and I tell ya, these gassers are great. Normally Empty 90% of the time and towing 10% of the time. I live in the South East and the areas i routinely go is within Texas to Florida so makes sense for me to go with gas. About gas stations - this is odd - I find the ones off the interstate don't fit all that well in, however if i scoot into town i can always find a gas station with a better pump arrangement. Id love to put an AUX or Transfer tank in but they are pricey for the gasoline.
  • 2024 7.3 3.73 mileage 14.1 city 17.2 highway 250super duty im very happy I just traded a 250 super duty 2021 stx 3.73 55.000 miles got 14.city 15.4 highway ecobost crap mileage it was a 6.2 letter eng but pulling a 67.00 camper it was struggling a bit I needed a little more power and I have it and better gas mileage I feel like a kid in a candy store I swear to God
  • @toddreeder3082
Can't wait till mine comes in ordered Saturday I am definitely over do 2001 Tahoe to a 2024 F250 7.3 Godzilla 😊

I think a lot of people worry to much about fuel economy in pickup trucks but there not economy cars there trucks lol yeah better economy is nice but not the reason i bought a truck i prefer the lowest rear axle ratio possible. That being said that 10 speed helps towing even if u have a higher gear ratio. good video bro 👍
  • Yeah, I was thinking about the 17 or the first year of those came out with the 5.4 L and six speed I have experience rebuilding those engines
  • @BrandonBigB956
I tried going from a diesel powerstroke back to a gas engine. Just dont like how the gas trucks pull so ended up going to a Cummins and tuning it and its a monster.
  • @myriadcorp
I have a 2023 7.3 4.30 gears, and I tow a Brinkley Z3100. I am getting 7-8mpg towing. I don't go over 65mph. My next truck will be a long bed diesel for better towing through hills and not having to fight fueling at gas stations.
  • @kenanderson2216
    I have a 7.3 in my F450 12 ft bed utility/concrete truck. I am getting the same gas mileage as my 2013 F250 on 40's w/ 4.30 gears 6.2 gas. Who knew?
