Learn how to replace axle seals on a solid rear axle that is leaking gear oil. You will know the axle seals are bad because gear oil will drip down the tires and sling everywhere. Luckily with this video you can see the process of replacing the axle seals. First you need to drain the differential. Next you need to unscrew the 4 nuts holding in the axle. Then you need to use a slide hammer to pop the axle out and now you have access to the seal. Use a seal puller tool to pop the seal out and then drive the new one in with a large socket or a seal driver tool. Now would be a good time to replace the rear wheel bearing as well and to do that you need to cut the bearing in half to remove it and then use a pipe with a hammer (or a hydraulic press) to press the new one on.

This was a fun, helpful collab with Donut and thank you Craftsman for coming in clutch with overnighting the tools I needed to make the repair! As you guys saw, I have moved to a new driveway and it's been pretty challenging to move over 1000mi away, all by myself. I hope to get back on track with consistent videos in the new place in the next couple months or so. I'm still sleeping on a blow up bed but my tools and cars are here so time to unpack and get the ball rolling. The new place will hopefully allow me to make videos more efficiently so more content for you guys!!! I appreciate all the supportive comments and the continued patience! This year has been a tough one!!! • @Donut
Thanks for the help Chris! You’re a lifesaver 😊

Just wanted to say you saved my life this afternoon. Years ago, I saw you put a tire under a car while you were working on it, and I've been doing that every time I change my oil since I saw that trick. Today, my car fell off the jack while I was under it, and it is with great pleasure that I inform you, I am not squished. Thanks Chris!

I love how this man is moving a thousand miles but doesn't forget about us and gives us a video in such short notice. True dedication!

Chris Fix, love the simplicity that you take in repairing items on cars. Your tools demonstrated in this video is just an example of how much the suppliers think of your videos in addition to the end viewers that the videos are targeted for

As an ex-mechanic; I watch your video's just to see how people like you carry out tasks like this; and you are excellent in both practice and presentation! I now struggle to carry out even a simple oil change or brake pad replacement on my own car, because this old body doesn't flex like it used to! 10/10 to you, Chris!

I’m gonna miss that driveway, soo many great teaching moments learned with you under a car, safe and informative. I became a shop owner learning everything from you and I thank you for everything you taught me!!!
  • @Frenchfryfatty
Thank you Chris! I just changed both front wheel hubs on my wife’s car and I wouldn’t have been able too without your help and all of your videos. Thank you for what you do🤙 that project alone saved me over $500
  • Not his usual setup, in the process of moving houses, working into the night time on late notice, and yet still finding a way to help out when he can. What a true legend 👏
  • @motorpath
Chris, your step-by-step instructions always make DIY car repairs feel so manageable! Thanks for breaking it down in a way even a beginner can understand. 🛠Keep up the great work, and I'll be tackling this fix soon thanks to your guidance

12:27 Yup, VERY important step. If you ever take the shaft out, clean the old grease as best you can and put new grease in. A lot of people skip this step that could gain them quite a few miles/km from that bearing. If you're already in, do it, even if you have to drop everything and run to the parts store to get the grease. I've heard this story so many times "dammit, wish i'd changed the bearings when i changed the seal" and similar. If the bearing's not shot, just pack it with fresh grease, it does a heck of a lot more than one think.

Hello Chris Fix , I just wanted to say a massive thank you for all your videos. They are absolutely fantastic. Thank you so much for the editing and the value Could you please do a DSG gearbox service video

Great video! And I'm super pumped that you got your own place. Can't wait for the videos from your new driveway!
  • I started fixing my own cars back in early 2020, primarly because I got an $800 bill from my local shop for replacing two front bearings on my Ford edge, when in hindsight I could have done it myself. Your channel has given me the confidence and information needed to get the job done. Keep them coming!
  • @NuynvI
Man the quality is just phenomenal, thanks for always bringing us amazing teaching videos.
  • @nyatzz508
If I could only find other how-to videos with this level of detail and enthusiasm! Thanks again Chris!
  • As usual, this is something I'll never do, but I love watching someone that knows what they're doing and can explain it well. Chris makes it look easy. Thanks, Chris!

Since I caught up on all your videos, it seems to take a long time for new episodes to come out. I have learned so much from watching your videos and you gave me the guts to start doing some of my own work on my car. Small things like brakes and tune-ups, but without watching your channel, I would of never done any of these things. Thanks again Chris for al you do and have done for so many people.
