Arguments against abortion medication heard by the Supreme Court today bordered on the absurd, but because the activists who brought the case specifically sought out rogue judges in lower courts the Supreme Court had to endure the embarrassment of hearing them. Jessica Valenti, writer of "Abortion, every day," Dahlia Lithwick, author of "Lady Justice," and host of the Amicus podcast, and Carrie N. Baker, professor of American Studies at Smith College, discuss with Alex Wagner.

  • So let me get this straight. A Texas state judge denied access to this drug across the entire US, but Colorado can't kick a federal president off their ballot? 🤨
  • If your religious beliefs prevent you from giving abortive care to a woman, why would you choose to specialize in gynecology or obstetrics? There are dozens of medical specialties you can enter without worrying about being forced to give abortive care.
  • But it DOES sound like a good argument for banning guns, given the trauma doctors see from gun shot wounds.
  • @ophirdog
Hey, religious people, if you want to abide by your religion's dress code that is fine, but please leave the rest of us alone.
  • @Azaraneth
Religious authoritarianism doesnt ever make sense. Tax all the churches.
  • I remember when Christians stood up for the poor and fought for civil rights. What the heck happened?

Who are these doctors? And what does a dentist have to do with abortion in an emergency room?
  • @MadTeaMarie
If a doctor has a moral objection to saving a life in an emergency room, THAT DOCTOR SHOULD NOT BE A DOCTOR. That isn't a doctor. That is a person deluded into thinking that being a doctor ALSO includes a duty to decide who SHOULD live and who SHOULD die.
  • As a retired Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant, after >50 years I never was called to scrub in on any case without knowing the type of case, mainly Horse Hockey by people who wish to impose their Religious Beliefs on every AMERICAN citizen.

Sorry, no high blood pressure, diabetic, or kidney dialysis for everyone because someone doesn’t believe in the medical care!
  • @Vybyqy
Wish anti-abortionists would show this much effort and enthusiasm in raising children born of other people's unwanted pregnancies... but they do not care about the welfare of the children born.
  • @Olive_O_Sudden
What they're arguing is that doctors should be permitted to refuse to perform surgery on a patient because they disapprove of how the patient came to need the surgery. But, of course, only if it's someone needing surgical care after using mifepristone. I doubt they'd defend a doctor who is anti-gun, refusing to perform surgery on someone who accidentally shot themself, or a dermatologist or oncologist refusing to treat someone with skin cancer because it was caused by the patient's willful use of a tanning bed.

Can we talk about the Alabama ruby red House district seat the Democrats flipped tonight? The Democrat won on the issue of abortion.
  • @suspendedhatch
If you’re a doctor that objects to providing certain types of care, DON’T BE a doctor! No one is forcing you. This is a free -ish country. Be a veterinarian. Be a pastor.

I respectfully l ask all women to vote and protect my young girls from these GOP dogs.
  • @jaggillar6680
The court is d*cking around with these worthless cases while we wait for them to hear and decide on Trumps immunity claim.
  • @JoeStoppinghem
I don’t understand why their “beliefs” overrule the Hippocratic Oath? These “doctors” should loose their license to practice.
