The Beach Boys are an American rock band that was formed in Hawthorne, California, in 1961. The group's original lineup consisted of brothers Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine. Distinguished by their vocal harmonies, adolescent-oriented lyrics, and musical ingenuity, they are one of the most influential acts of the rock era. They drew on the music of older pop vocal groups, 1950s rock and roll, and black R&B to create their unique sound. Under Brian's direction, they often incorporated classical or jazz elements and unconventional recording techniques in innovative ways.

  • While I have seen and heard most of these clips prior to now, having them put together in a concise historical and chronological context in the video shared, is excellent. Keep up the good work!

I've been a Beach Boys fan from the time they first started back in 1962.
  • One of the greatest groups, thank you for this video, hope to see more like this

Back in the early 60's when I was just a little shaver the Beach Boys were America's band and the Beatles Britain's band. There was a battle of the bands going on between the two. Not so surprisingly the Beatles inevitably won hands down . They were the trendsetters of the British Invasion movement.

A lot more BB fans like the simple catchy stuff than fans who like the ambitious stuff, which is why Pet Sounds didn't take off back then. Some people are into complicated stuff, the huge majority are not. Record companies wanted the latter, then.

Mike is so modest and even gives Brian some credit for their success. His revisionist history is par none.

A direct quote from Mike “ who will listen to this shit, the ears of a dog.” Now it’s “our” pet sounds album.
  • What’s revealing about the clip of Murray leaving the recording session is that he was not a big commercial guy. He truly loved music.

thank you for making this! absolutely spectacular
  • Brian is brilliant 👍🏻 i can see why the Beatles were on high alert, the Beach boys made great music. I love the Beatles more, but if it wasn't for pet sounds maybe we wouldn't have had Sgt. Peppers. The Beach boys I hear there songs but i never got into them. But again were definitely creative and prolific.👍🏻🎸
